@fullauto2009 An upgrade in place is not recommended, as it's not supported even by Raspbian. Note that attractmode is not compatible yet with the Pi4.

If you want to set up a new model, simply clone your /home/pi/RetroPie folder to your PC, install RetroPie on the new SD card, delete the new /home/pi/RetroPie folder, replacing it with the existing one.

@mitu Cool! Thanks a million for that I appericiate it. Yeah the wonder of Chineseum arcade controller sets from Amazon... every time the keyboard encoders are ever so slightly different with some showing as something like Micronek (Microtek) and some as Dragon something.

      Thanks again

@v-roshpi Contact the seller ? You can download RetroPie from our site, and try and get that to work but you will need to contact them for configuration unless you know what it's using to interface etc

I'm not sure if it's possible to remove a help option, but you can set a blank (transparent) image for the last/first slot of the help buttons row and then shuffle the other buttons left (or right).
You can also remove the mapping for the button from the /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg file - make sure you back it up first, just in case editing it goes awry.

      @mitu
The device setup I was thinking would be like this on the raspberry pi
USB1: Usb image boot, raspbian? smaller.
Micro-SDslot: unformatted new microsd (the target of the image write)
USB2: Usb microsd adapter (the source of the image write)

rpi-clone; and I thought I made it sound confusing.

@aussie-daredevil Then I recommend starting from scratch with the new disc, make sure it works, then transfer your files to it from your old drive - ROMs/artwork/etc. See the 2nd backup method explained in the docs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#making-a-backup-option-2.

@RetroJoe This is not a ROM sharing site, the rules are there so people understand that. You seem to have not read them - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2/forum-rules.

      Freeware and demo image

That doesn't give re-distribution rights automatically. There's a topic dedicated to how to legally obtain games/ROMs, you may post there - respecting the forum rules - links to games you think are freeware/demo:

Or maybe I overlooked, or jumped the gun on what was the problem.
If you see the pretty rainbow screen then you wrote the image correctly.
It may be very likely as I was reminded in the forums that there are different versions of the retropie image that will work for the different raspberry pi models. The pi 1/zero are bundled up into one image and the pi 2/3 are bundled into a different image, with older images not supporting the pi3b+.
      I don't know about the 1b+

Please add more info about your system, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

My systems? The post is simply asking if there is a way to add an image to a .bin file to act as a thumbnail on a selection screen. It’s not a systems related post.

Thanks for the replies folks. Turns out the whole black screen thing on reboot is me being impatient while it restores the space on the new SD card.

I tried it all again from scratch with Pishrink, only this time left it for about 20 minutes after the splash screen then black screen thing. It went to the black screen as before but I decided to be patient this time and after about 20 mins or so it rebooted itself into Emulationstation as it should. Everything seems to be running absolutely fine. Thrilled to bits! Really wanted to keep this image as I'd put a lot of weekends into it!

      Thanks again. :-)

@papinist DL21 only works for DL, but on http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/ you can find enhanced versions of DL2 and SA as well. Look under "ROM Updates".

I think a separate thread would be better for your Daphne issues.
