For anyone running an older version of RetroPie, this game successfully installed on 4.3 for me. Note that I ran the normal install process but then had to manually move the install script module from ext to scriptmodules/ports, and then install like a normal port from within RetroPie to complete. The keymapper is indeed buggy, using it with my Xbox 360 controller corrupts the Dpad mapping for the game. So you basically have a choice between accepting the default mappings or losing Dpad support (with the game still being playable via the joystick). FYI, I tried @Lolonois' script but it errors out because of missing dependencies related to my older 4.3 install.

Regardless, this is a frantic and fun game...definitely worth checking out!

We, meaning my brother and I, often used the Tac-2 which he had customized a bit as he was a bit of a electronic tinkerer even back then.
He had added an auto fire and a switch that froze the Amiga's clock thereby freezing the CPU and the full computer like an OP pause button.
We also used a 'bug' joystick which was nice, clicky and functional but I can't remember developing a loving relationship with that one, (who would with an insect?) THe Tac-2 wasn't really a good joystick it was a bit stiff to use its main redeeming aspect was that it was extremely sturdy. And looked pretty cool.

So, there is no way to make this work? :(

I don't think so, but since it's also not working in Windows, the board may be broken ?

I found this mail chain reporting some fix in Ubuntu 19.10 for another very similar Saulabi model, I don't know if helps in any way : https://www.mail-archive.com/search?l=ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com&q=subject:"[Bug+786955]+Re%3A+Saulabi+4K+Joystick+(Buttons+not+working)"&o=newest&f=1

That doesn't seem to have any useful information for your problem.

@lostless That's great news. I have come across numerous articles about changing the button config for certain games, but I didn't know you could change the controllers for certain BIOS. Thank you very much!

Dragonise is a generic USB controller name used in a great deal of encoders, so there's no single mapping that will work with them. If you configure your controller in EmulationStation, then the mapping you chose there should be saved in dapinput.ini automatically.

Please add some more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first and post your dapinput.ini file.

The menu's are the same and it was installed as per documentation.

No, they're not. Your screenshot show a heavily customized RetroPie installation - that's not what a default RetroPie configuration looks like (even with added games). You're clearly using a 3rd party image, for which - as @Ashpool mentioned - we don't offer support.

      Performance is not great, ...

You can give lzdoom (standalone Doom port) a try, it has controller support, though you may need a keyboard to set it up. Haven't used it with a controller, but it may have better performance.

You can't connect the joystick directly to the PI's GPIOs, you need an ADC chip in-between.
Take a look at https://grantwinney.com/connecting-an-analog-joystick-to-the-raspberry-pi-and-using-it-with-an-rgb-led-to-simulate-a-color-wheel/, which uses an MCP 3008 to connect a joystick to the PI.

@mitu Actually it still wasn’t working properly turns out that was only part of the problem. Apparently my retroarch hotkey configs weren’t saving when I quit retroarch so Start+Select wasn’t even set to be the exit emulator buttons. However after enabling “Save configuration on quit”. My settings saved and now it is working fine and dandy!

@roslof Ah OK, that was it! My version was just called "Bolo" and the crack was by Trystan II. Seemed to work fine except for the the joystick. When I tried the 4AM crack, it worked!

      Thanks!

@10vorne Yes, there is the Mayflash DC to USB Adapter, but it somehow can't map the C and the Z button. This way you only have 4 functional buttons, which might be enough for a lot of games.
Then there is the raphnet adapter (especially the internal one) where you can make a total conversion of the arcade stick. But shipping to Germany is expensive...

@Teh_Lurv Thanks for your response. Yes, my current joysticks work pretty well universally. As an avid fighting game player, I do find that I struggle with some SF moves. Sometimes they go off, sometimes not. Especially after playing them exclusively in the arcades all those years ago.

The final resolution was unless I can feel them for myself, it's not worth the time and money of experimenting. But I really appreciated everyone's opinions here!
