@quicksilver Thanks for the summary. I found these threads from you about overclocking:

First, you should provide the information asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Second, you might have stumbled upon the news Sony driver behavior in newer kernels, where the rumble appears as a separate device and messes up the controller numbering. See this topic for a workaround.

@drake999 said in Wife friendly games?:

@quicksilver Same here, when I was a kid my mom wouldn't touch video games with a 10-foot pole.

Then you'd have needed an 11-foot pole, "the thing you use to touch things that you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole."

I use PS3 controllers with no lag and just this past weekend I played on my cousin's box I built for him with no lag. He uses xbox360 controllers with a K-mart quality 3rd party usb wireless adapter. I think a lot of lag has to do with how the controller is made to work with Bluetooth and if there is luck or good support. I've even tried some discontinued 8bitdo Sn30 controllers that work fairly well but I feel like there is noticeable lag with them although it's not enough to alter gameplay once you get past it.

@blonqe @dudleydes I'm confused. In my standard Emulation Station that's part of Retropie 4.3, I can filter games by the number of players in the Filter Gamelist menu. Don't you have that option, blonge?

edit: Sorry, I didn't read dudleydes' post correctly. He/she basically said exactly the same. In my defense, I have a bad cold at the moment. O:)

@mitu Cool, good to know multiplayer shouldn't be a hassle. I figured Dualshock 4 would work on Bluetooth as well but I only have two of those, and my wife ever so occasionally games with me. Seeing as I have three PS3 controllers and I haven't used the PS3 in ages, especially in co-op, I'd rather use two PS3 controllers than the PS4 ones, even if I do think that the PS4 controller feels better (not as good as the Switch Pro controller, but that's neither here nor there). So if Bluetooth works without a bad lag then I'll probably stick with the PS3 controllers simply because I already have enough of those lying around. If Bluetooth isn't good enough then I'll either get a Bluetooth dongle, or a wired Switch Hori Pad.

I think I may have found the problem - fake DS3 controllers.

They look great, absolutely like the genuine article, but having a look at some YouTube videos they do have a few of the similarities described in some of the videos for fake controllers. For example, the top of the box they came in is light blue rather than the darker, patterned blue of a real box, approximately 1 minute in to this video

They also won't connect through the offical PS3 configuration in the menu - I have to use the Shanwam (is that the right word?) setup/driver to make them work.

When I plug them into my PC it says a PS3 Controller has been detected - would it say something else if they were genuine? Like DualShock 3 detected or similar?

Also, as above, they just don't seem to want to charge. Lights will flash when plugged into my computer using the cable that was supplied with them, but they never stops flashing, and its all 4 lights flashing rather than just one.

When plugged into the Pi they just won't stop vibrating either!

Girlfriend got them from eBay and while they look the part I'm convinced this could be the problem. Shame, as I don't really want to have to spend £50 a pop on DualShock 4 controllers!

Maybe I could get some battery packs and dig out my old Xbox 360 pads instead? They're great, but the batteries on them are dying.

      Trash it for PS1
It's an action game where the 1-4 players have to destroy buildings with gigantic hammers. As a player, you take role of a construction worker who has only one mission: To smash everything to bits and cross the finish line before the opponents. Check it out on youtube it's actually great deal of fun.

@alanjds The original poster hasn't been active for 3 years and bumping 3 years old topic is not proper forum etiquette. I suggest you open a new topic if you have a specific support question - mentioning the info about your system, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Thank you.
