I was actually wrong it started up again but when i connected a power supply to my hdmi av connector it stopped and has been good since i think it is a power issue and using overscan must draw less power so thats why it seemed better

@dankcushions said in Text off screen edges.:

@piercedfreak ok, so now you try with negative numbers, i think. or larger positive numbers. it's measured in pixels

I had tried negative numbers with no effect, but just tried again, and they worked, and fixed it. Thanks.

@juicebag85 please fill out the information requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

i ask because this behaviour (one core doing one overscan behaviour, another doing another) should not happen in standard retropie.

      Yet another workaround:

The standard command with which pcsx is run in Retropie does not always work without errors. Replace it, using the following steps.

Edit /opt/retropie/configs/psx/emulators.cfg so that the command to launch pcsx-rearmed reads:

      pcsx-rearmed = "/opt/retropie/emulators/pcsx-rearmed/pcsx -cdfile %ROM%"

A new (hidden) config dir will be created: /home/pi/.pcsx/. And a dir where you must place the the PSX BIOS (i.e. the file SCPH1001.BIN): /home/pi/bios/.

Redo the settings for pcsx. They will be saved in /home/pi/.pcsx/pcsx.cfg. Do NOT copy the file 'pcsx.cfg' from /opt/retropie/configs/psx/pcsx/! You can, however, copy other settings like save files from there.

When certain emulators crash then the command line on my Pi (running Raspbian 9 Stretch) is unresponsive. The Pi does, however, respond via ssh. But no matter what process I kill, the console on my television stays non-responsive. Anybody got some tips & hints?

      Hi all,
So just to clarify you are saying its possible to:

Disable the overscan via raspi-config to get rid of the black border Enable the overscan_scale=1 in config.txt

I did these steps but ES still had its own ideas. Could I use the manual settings in config.txt for the left, right, up, down etc values to re-centre it. I also noticed that with overscan disabled my MAME games get cut off at the top a bit as well.

Is there a preferred option I should be setting the display settings to in the rasp-config. I have a 55"4k Display.

      Thanks,
      Dwarfboysim

Ok I think I finally fixed it to the point where it doesn't make me angry. I decided to try someone else's config.txt as mine was cursed or something :P I went here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6hdpa7893c3ked1/AABCXqUHjXI-C3PUdcq4f8jya?dl=0 and downloaded the "custom_res" config. I renamed it to "config.txt", changed the resolution to 320x240, and added some custom overscan numbers. The lines are still there, but they don't affect the text and only appear on a black screen. I'm sure I could go further and 100% fix it but right now I'm happy. Whew!

Also just to note, if I plug my 16:10 asus monitor into my RPi it fills the whole screen with ES like I would expect, but games still have black border all the way around.

Edit: another note is that I did google some on this first and found to disable overscan in the config file. this worked for ES only if I turned off game mode on my TV but games were all still black borders all around.

Regarding your issue with the GBA BIOS, you may have to try a few before you find one that works. Also, the md5sum is noted here to compare against your own.
