What exactly 'not working' means ? EmulationStation doesn't start ? Games aren't working ? Installation is not completing ?
Please add more details about your setup, including the Ubuntu version and hardware details.

@stephenrossi20 said in N64 games running slow on Rasberry Pi 4..Help!!:

is there a way to make them run more smooth?? all options are on the table

Overclock your GPU and via the Runcommand, select a recommended N64 Emulator, Resolution, Setting per Rom/Game as detailed in this list below ...

I fixed it on my own. You got to raspiconfig, select advance tools, select configedit and select "libreto, change settings for libreto retorarch, select retroarc.cfg and change Video_driver to "GL" and then change menu settings to "refui" and then turn off threaded video to "false", set audio to "Alsathread" and that did it or something along those lines, I have only just fixed it.

@jamietuley You don't need to overclock, I was just checking that you didn't have that enabled, overclocking usually needs more power for the GPU/CPU and that might affect the USB current output.

A powered USB hub is one that it doesn't draw power from the Pi's USB port and has its own power plug. This was your IPAC and USB soundcard will be powered separately.

      Solved it.

For anybody wondering, you must delete the fle SDLPoP.ini
run prince to generate it again (rename to .ini)
      uncomment the gamecontroller line
      download the file https://github.com/gabomdq/SDL_GameControllerDB/blob/master/gamecontrollerdb.txt
into the same folder where prince is.

      Voila'!

@nyvram from the distance: If your room audio has some API reachable from the RetroPie you may consider the scripting function for specific events (since ES v2.9.2). https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#scripting

The event game-start passes two parameters to every script in the folder ~/.emulationstations/srcipts/game-start/: ROM and basename (easiest is to echo them in a test script to determine what they represent exactly.)

Or put your actions for the room audio in runcommand-onstart/-onend.

Fixed it. System crashed, so installed ubuntu again with user pi password raspberry.
Now i dont have this problem anymore.

Maybe it’s a coincidence but otherwise it may be smart to put it in the manual.

@konrad_ziom Make sure you set-up your Wi-Fi country first before attempting to connect to your AP. Do you see your Wi-Fi in the list of when you try connecting ?

@crusadeklr I'm not sure I understand. What's wrong with using the in-game save feature? In game saves should work just fine.

      @ebeyer
In that case, i'd keep an eye on GOG, they often give away free games that use SCUMMVM or DOSBOX, which can be played on retropie. (They're licensed to sell the games they're selling)

Speaking of SCUMMVM and DOSBOX these platforms also have hundreds of freeware titles available.
      https://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Where_to_get_the_games

Furthermore, you might want to look into some homebrew for the various systems.

And lastly although not free, fanatical.com which is is also a licensed storefront often has the entire Sega collection on sale for roughly 5 bucks.
