I think @quicksilver might be right. On the PC, the actual start-up is done via $HOME/.config/autostart/retropie.desktop. Modify it and add a delay before emulationstation starts

@staller It has nothing to do with the controller type you are using.

Use the default retroarch.cfg - leave aside all the hard sync settings (I don't think they're relevant for the Pi's GPU) and the audio settings. Also, a GPU mem of 256 is more than enough for most emulators, so I don't see any point in upping it to 512.

@jodiefoster clrmamepro works, you are either not using it properly or using the wrong dat file

@jodiefoster said in Question about mame roms(please read all):

their is no 100% accurate .dat out there you will find

Those dat files are directly generated by the emulator using its own code, they are 100% accurate by definition.

@jodiefoster The point is that neither you nor we know what exactly was changed under the hood which may be the source of problems you won't have with the official image. Only the person who made this custom build knows that, so you should ask them or use the official build.

@machine_74 this is normal behavior. The only partion that a windows computer can access directly is the boot partition. The other Linux partion, windows doesn't understand what it is and assumes it needs to be formatted. Nothing is wrong with your card, just ignore/close out the format prompts.

@kok00 don't know anything about the script but for the record there are some non working parents that are required to make clones work so if you delete them they may break more games depending on the type of rom set you have.

@dankcushions said in batch scan rom: keep good and remove bad?:

why would a game not start? that shouldn’t happen.

We don't even know what system the OP is talking about : assuming he is talking about arcade and he has read the arcade documentation to pick the right romsets for the emulator he is using, there is still the issue of non-working games, however removing those non-working games might lead to more non-working games (case of the non-working parents with working clones) if he is using split romsets.

      Okay,

I think I found the solution. There were a couple of roms without "[!]" in the name. Because I was trying anything I could think of, I deleted those files and now everything is fine. Emulation shows every N64 rom now.
Sorry for asking your help. Thank you for thinking with me for finding a solution.

Best regard to all of you!

@EpicWings You need to resize the 5Gb partition to take the rest of the 64 Gb of your USB disc.
Use a live CD with System Rescue CD on your PC, boot it up, then insert your USB stick and resize the 2nd partition using GParted.

      @GoldManSex778
I did try that and still ran into issues so said hell with it...erased everything off of USB drive and started from scratch at instructions for manually mounting. Since I had copied everything over using a previous copy method and that might have been causing issues.
Right now I'm copying the correct directory structure over, so hopefully everything will work properly now once I do the rest of the steps lol. If anything I've learned some things about Linux from the experience.

Final Update: Success! Thank you all for helping!

For anyone ever going through this, one of two things I think was the issue: NOT following the instructions to the letter manually mounting, or my UUID was wrong. I had the last char wrong, but could have sworn it was something different before(either new copy changed UUID, or was my error). Resolution on a laptop helps reading the characters much more clearly than on the TV screen where its almost a guessing game.
I used WinSCP to confirm that its working, and booting up was much faster!

@BuZz You were not far from the truth, for some reason I had it in mind that fbalpha was also distributed as a standalone emulator, but it's just pifba (and the older lr-fbalpha-2012).

Yeah, the \\IP-ADDRESS-HERE\McArcade\RetroPie\ROMs\Nintendo\Super Nintendo Entertainment System UNC style paths are Windows specific, they won't work on Linux. Glad you got it working, happy gaming !
