I know this is an old topic but I was reading it just before I tried out the xboxdrv from https://github.com/zerojay/xboxdrv/ and I thought I'd just let you know... having built and tested it all you have to do is launch xboxdrv with the --chatpad option and it works perfectly.

I don't use retropie so I don't know where you need to make this change, but that is all that is required. My main annoyance with it is that I can't find a tab key... but it works well, I'm writing this post with it on my laptop.

Haven't been on the forum in awhile and happened to be looking around and saw this. Not sure if you're still looking for info on this.. but i'm a big fan of romhacks, I found the biggest obstacle to be creating the gamelist. Getting a nice romhack list setup in ES or Launchbox takes a fair amount of manual effort.

Obviously none of the scrapers will scrape & create gamelists for you because their romhacks and there is no official list, but if you have romhack naming convention figured out how you like and have them all named, you can get a base XML created from Unviversal XML Scraper (https://github.com/Universal-Rom-Tools/Universal-XML-Scraper/releases) and go from there. I name my romhacks like this:
    snes-romhacks-naming (1).png

In ES, I created separate "systems" for romhacks and even English translated roms if I felt there were enough to warrant it. to create the separate systems, I copied the system from the theme folder, renamed it and edited the theme.xml to replace the "ControllerOverlay" art & "logo2" art with a different image (both are normally the controller.svg file, I just a png image, which..mine doesn't line up perfect, but it's good enough for me) so when you're scrolling through you can differentiate between them easily.

You also need to edit the es_systems.cfg and copy the system you want, and rename the affected fields for that.
    snes-romhacks-es_systems (1).png

So for SNES, I actually have 4 different systems in my Carbon ES theme folder, and in the ROMS folder:
    snes
    snes-hacks
    snes-msu
    snes-trans

For filling in the gamelist fields for each hack, I just kept it simple and did a description, I didn't worry about year/developer/etc. And I just used the box of the original game as the image, I didn't try to find screenshots or specific box art for romhacks. snes-romhacks-gamelist (1).png

As far as your question on patching, I can't really answer that, I pre-patch all romhacks, I'm not sure if emulators can do on-the-fly patching or not. Also compress roms as .zip, just normal compression rate, nothing crazy.

I'm sure there are easier/better ways to do some of this stuff, but this is what I came up with at the time. Hope this info is useful to someone.

@philipmather ditto /opt/retropie-player1/e...s.../scripts/inputconfigurations.sh has hard coded rootdir.

    @mitu That's more a typo than a full-on spelling error, though.

@spud11 B-em works on Linux also - it just needs a desktop environment to work.

    @cyperghost
Overclockings - No boot. cfg, nothing special
Themes - only the official and themas installer.
Easyhax - scripts only. Nothing that creates a fork
Bios - I believe that in this part I really made a mistake

Well I'm trying to delete the topic, but he accuses that I can not have answers in it. So since no one liked it, I'm grateful if any adm help me by deleting it for me.

    No further.

@navi87 said in EmulationStation custom options menues:

Is there any way to manually edit and replicate the menu on ES when you press start as shown in the video? Where would such files be on the sd card??

As i said - 2 years ago - that's not the RetroPie's version of EmulationStation, so it's doesn't apply to the RetroPie's EmulationStation, where the same answer I gave then is still valid.

    Hi,
    are there any news?
What is a working gamelist editor under windows?

    I find this: https://forum.recalbox.com/topic/9265/soft-gamelist-editor
Seems working, but i.e. the mame-libreto -folder will not displayed.
My trick: Rename the mame-libretor to (i.e. not used) "snes" => than the games are displayed.

Also found the the "ARRM" editor, but for me not clear how it should work... lot of features ...

Any other gamelist editors there ?

@BJRetro I confirm you'll need a gpu which is vulkan capable (and it's drivers). Currently i don't think there are many SBCs who have vulkan support (probably jetson nano ? maybe odroid N2 ?).

It depends on how is it connected to the Pi - if it's HDMI, you can get an HDMI splitter and connect both your TV and the screen at once.

Runcommand is meant to be run interactively - if you want to run it, make sure it has a controlling terminal attached. If you wish to just start the emulator & games, then why are you using Runcommand instead of starting the emulator directly ?

@retropieuser555 said in Top ways to pimp your RetroPie?:

People even make their own bootup videos and hide the boot text so you get a nice clean video before the menus load.

True. I found a bunch of great looking, generic "loading screen"-type videos on Youtube and downloaded a few for my cab. You only see it when switching on, but it greatly enhances the dedicated-machine-feel!

@mitu said in Getting AdvanceMAME to run on FKMS builds:

Do you care to elaborate on the Video appears a bit degraded part ? I confess I didn't use advmame before, so I don't have a past reference, I just test it out on the Pi4 - the 3.9 version - to see how it works.

    Sure mitu,

Overall, it looks like anti-aliasing doesn't work with the SDL driver. Examples:

Vector game lines are not anti-aliased System menu font appears jagged Video Rgb Effects, such as scan2horz do not blend nicely with the game screen.

The setting display_antialias is set to yes, but there is no visual difference when it's disabled or enabled.

One of the draws of using AdvanceMAME is for the clean high-res Vector images, so that's a bit of a miss. But having AdvanceMAME available for rendering raster games like Cotton 2 and Baku Baku is a must-have.

There are also some issues going in and out of the settings menu (Tab). Sometimes, when returning to the game, the screen blanks. Also, gets very sluggish and occasionally hangs. Might not be related to the driver, but different from running this on a 3B+ without Buster.

@mitu That's unfortunate. I was about to nag him for a retropie tutorial with his mesa drivers.
