@DTEAM @barbudreadmon It's cmitu's wip script. It won't directly load games right now. You'll have to do it from inside flycast. Ymmv.. I was using mesa version 21.3.8 https://github.com/cmitu/RetroPie-Setup/tree/flycast-standalone

Side note..after installing the latest mesa the pi4 can handle (21.3.8) on 64bit Bullseye lite and compiled retroarch and lr-flycast with vulkan, I don't get any more major frame drops in sonic adventure 2's first level. It still hovers at around 59fps and I have no idea what further compiling optimizations can be done.

I have an i5 NUC 8. I don't run Retropie but instead built up a Retropie inspired setup that runs from the Desktop.

Doom source code (the game engine) is open source (GPL), but the game content is not. Same with Quake1/2/3 or Doom3 - the game engine is open source and free to distribute, but the game content is not.
There are other open sourced games that follow the same patten (i.e. VVVVVV, Duke 3D) - their engine may be open source, but the game's content (maps/levels/art/sound/etc.) is not. That's why they're still on sale today and selling them requires a license/agreement with the game's publisher/owner - the open source nature of the engine doesn't guarantee free distribution of the game.

Are you saying you have a code that will constantly play a mp3 file and play in the background and will continue to play while you do other things in the background
using pygame?

I got mine to play when i boot up the raspberry pi but, as soon as I do something like start my MAIN.py the mp3 stops playing: and I need it to KEEP PLAYING?

@Jiryn I would go definitely for the PI and skip the Amiga Mini. Simply because the PI with RetroPie is far more flexible compared to the Amiga Mini.

Sure it looks nice but the diversity of emulation offered by RetroPie is something the Amiga Mini can't compete with. C64 games and Amiga games run perfectly on the PI. Haven't tried C128 yet byt my guess is it will run great as well.

That's probably the reason why it's not working - there's no video device initialized. You didn't mention which Pi model are you using, but as a general solution, configure a video mode in /boot/config.txt and set hdmi_force_hotplug=1 as-well so that display detection is skipped.

As for using the solution on the RaspiOS Bullseye, it will not work due to the fact that the MMAL/DispmanX API is no longer supported with the new KMS ARM driver.

Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to use this solution, if you don't have a display attached to the Pi ? Wouldn't it be easier to install the emulators on your PC/Phone to play ?

I have them connected with my fan and I have a script that powers them both on about 20 sec after first boot

@retropieuser555 I doubt they gave you the rights to sell or distribute that rom, so it probably didn't change : you can keep this rom for your personal usage.

Not quite - see https://retropie.org.uk/about/legal/. The RetroPie image includes software with non-commercial license, so it's not legal to sell it or include it in your kit.

You can sell the hardware (the arcade cabinet) and provide instructions on how it can be made to work with something like RetroPie or other Pi supported gaming system.

@mitu Thank you for the thorough, long and very helpful reply! It is a little clearer to me now. I think it is very likely I will end up with duplicate controllers; there are only so many of those USB controllers, and you can't muck with the ID's. I suppose I could make one, but that seems excessive.. However your comment on scripts really makes me think! It wouldn't be all that hard to hook up something like an RFID reader and attach an rfid tag to the controller panel, and have script selection use that. Pretty minimal code really, once I hassle you all for the general nature of the scripts :)

TBH though, my inclination to older arcade games makes me think harder to attaching a PI 3 to each panel, and just plugging in HDMI/power/sound (maybe a custom connection?). I mean, if I could actually buy them. A PI is actually less then a AAA game. But then you do have to maintain them all, etc
