I actually emphasized quantity, but I did so only to an extent, excluding any un-translated games, most prototypes, and most unlicensed games. In my mind, I wanted to create a kind of history museum or archival library, showcasing the console's life through its titles. You can flip to any one console and see the styles of box art, the genres and trends that were popular, the character designs that reflected the era, the relevant pop culture icons of the time, and whatever else. Sure, I won't ever play the vast majority of the games I added, but it's a beautiful and eloquent way to look back on gaming history from the late 1970's to the early 2000's.

Any chance Mesen could be added as optional core.

My first impression about the new case (BIQU Aluminium case) is fantastic. It dropped at least 20° Celsius while idling or watching preview videos at around 52° even with moderate overclocking (arm_freq=1300 core_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 over_voltage=2). Before this case, it was sitting around 70° without any overclocking. Now, I don't know how to test properly, but I am happy if it stays stable and cool and if I don't get any over heating warning symbol while playing 8- and 16-bit console games with shaders.

  • Recommendations for bluetooth keyboards?

I have had some luck and some disappointment with various BT keyboards working properly with RetroPie. The first two I bought worked perfectly, so I ordered a couple more from the same vendor, while they did pair successfully, the function keys wouldn't work. I noticed even through they looked identical, the model numbers were different, so I requested the model numbers that I knew specifically worked. Long story short and 8 keyboards later, they were unable to deliver any fully functioning keyboards... so I widened the net and ordered eight more from various vendors, four of which provided me with compatible keyboards. Here they are on Amazon:

    $14 CyberTech Bluetooth Ultra-Thin
$15 Fintie Ultra Slim Wireless Bluetooth
    $20 Anker Bluetooth Ultra-Slim
    $18 Jelly Comb Universal Backlit

Clearly most of these are the same models from China with company branding, but it seems the programming or on-board drivers are slightly different per company too.

Also, if you're having difficulty pairing your keyboards, here is a little CNET article on how to setup bluetooth directly in Linux (vs. the RetroPie setup GUI). The GUI method was spotty for me but the Linux method worked 100% of the time! (note: it was sometimes necessary to slip a "trust xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" between the "pair" and "connect" commands)

My work/fail test was to be in EmulationStation and hit the F4 key. If it doesn't exit EmulationStation it was a fail. (some keyboards required a two key press of FN and F4). If you are already in the Linux shell you can type "showkey -a" and then press F4, compare the result with a USB wired keyboard press of F4. If they are not the same, fail the keyboard.

@lilbud Determines the person. Gaming PCs aren't exactly small elegant beasts that have a cozy spot in the living room. I think the Atari VCS will bring a nice compact elegant solution. Not a hulking beast, but not as underpowered as say a Nvidia Shield. For its price range, I figure it'll outclass most Mini-PCs in its price range. Not to mention it's running a straight operating system and not limited to the confines of Android or even something like a PS4.

It's something that's not aiming to be the best, but to be the best at what it does.

@quicksilver Same here, when I was a kid my mom wouldn't touch video games with a 10-foot pole.

Then you'd have needed an 11-foot pole, "the thing you use to touch things that you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole."

@quicksilver Yeah I imagine that is part of the reason my my 5 GHz band performs so much better. That and the fact that less people in my building are using that band. I use my 2.4 GHz band for low-priority stuff and my 5 GHz band for gaming and media streaming.

Not really retropie based, but you could try Demul or nulldc. Just download the zip files, not the installer.
You probably have to reconfigure the bios and Iso folders each time you open it on a different device.

@markyh444 Pretty sure less than 1% of the people buying something like this would be capable of installing such a script. What about a pre-made image?

Just a thought on this. If people aren't able to work through running a script, then you're going to have a nightmare situation with support when problems pop up, and they will pop up.

Great. I have learned a lot more the last couple of days and feel more comfortable in clrmamepro. Everything is working. Some dat files may have a crc that doesn't match one of the files inside the rom zip, but it works. Also, thanks for that screenshot because you just turned me on to "Hashtab", what a great little utility!

@rion Signed it today, thanks for the announcement. You should mention that this is a campaign of the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) and the OpenForum Europe (OFE) as those are well known and respected organisations. People can learn this on the website, but some might not follow a link to a site of an unknown operator. Just a hint to improve your venture. :)

I use PS3 controllers with no lag and just this past weekend I played on my cousin's box I built for him with no lag. He uses xbox360 controllers with a K-mart quality 3rd party usb wireless adapter. I think a lot of lag has to do with how the controller is made to work with Bluetooth and if there is luck or good support. I've even tried some discontinued 8bitdo Sn30 controllers that work fairly well but I feel like there is noticeable lag with them although it's not enough to alter gameplay once you get past it.

Do they make a Sega Genesis turbo 6 button controller with shoulder/triggers? I thought they did back when my 66mhz PC used to play Street Fighter and Jill Of The Jungle.
