@drdave79 I've been using Retropie for over 5 years now. Every experience I've had with updating Retroarch has had it's downfalls, it's never a smooth transition because it effects so many systems attached to it. I agree with leaving a running system as it is, but after so many new versions are released you loose a lot of performance options.

So it's always up to you, but I go by a basic rule of thumb....I wait till enough new versions have been released to make it worth the trouble I know it's about to cause. Backup what you have and be ready to pull out some hair (or stubs in my case).

@jonnyman if you're new to all of this i would recommend starting from the retropie image which has a much easier installation process and less room for error: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/.

and please supply all the information requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when seeking support.

@tropersneo please provide ALL the info requested here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

especially including verbose log, but also please provide /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg

note that your "libretro.cfg" (what is this? there's not file of that name in default retropie) looks to be non-standard. a retropie default one for /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg will be much smaller, for example.

Worked as a solution for the most recent RetroPie install after Pixel desktop was installed and lost audio. Purge the audio package and everything came back with HDMI audio.

@mitu Everything that is mapped to my controller works if Game Focus is turned off. Problem is now with 1.9.4. the keyboard doesn't work until Game Focus is turned on. Once Game Focus is on, I loose all the mappings, I can't even open the Retroarch menu. What was the need for the change. Before this version, I never saw this happen.

It doesn't effect any games that do not use a keyboard until you get to Amiga, A800, AtariST and DOSbox-pure.

I don't know a way around this without plugging in a true USB keyboard that has a scroll-lock key. My BT unit doesn't have one. I opened the retroarch.cfg and tried to remap the Game Focus key to another key, but it keeps automatically reverting back to scroll-lock as the entry.

I've deleted Retroarch and reloaded it by source thinking maybe some file is still hanging around from a previous build, but it didn't change anything.

I'm not sure what else to do with this other than buy a new, portable BT keyboard that has a scroll-lock key on it.

Update....nevermind... I found this on reddit and see there is a way to reassign the on/off toggle. I set mine to page-up key. All good.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroArch/comments/kv06im/psa_just_a_reminder_that_toggling_game_focus/

Works fine. Now I can toggle it on and off and use both the hotkeys and keyboard as needed. Works great.

    Thanks again.

Yeah having games inside subfolders should be no problem, as long as their path falls inside the "system path" (~/RetroPie/roms/snes, etc.) defined in es_systems.cfg. If you try to point a gamelist for a system at a rom file outside of this system path, ES won't like it and will skip that entry.

Does anybody know if a Xbox 360 wheel with wireless receiver will work with retropie?

@jillyo what is the filename of the image file you downloaded? Are you sure you got the right one for Pi3?

I think I figured out my mistake. Since I was using an Xbox controller I was using the optional Xbox Driver. I uninstalled this and now everything works great. Thanks for taking a look!

@derdotzi1982 said in same controller, same config - but not the same at all:

Mayby the wirring (button - controller) is not identical. But how can i generate a second "inputConfig"-controller-entry?

You can't, the configuration is based on the name of the controller. Since both controllers are using the same name it's a single configuration for both - in EmulationStation or emulators. Fix the wiring, so it's identical, and everything will be ok.

I was able to type 'vlc' into the command prompt and saw that it was available. I'm not sure if ioJukebox works on Attract Mode, as it produced an error attempting to load the layout.nut file. If anyone has ideas on what to do next or if I could use another media player, I'd be willing to try it. I also looked into Fruitbox, but it only works on the Pi Zero, 1, 2, and 3 models only.

@itsthex said in Controller Issues - Buttons Inop, Controls change:

I picked up a Vilros Pi 4 kit to use with VMAN's 512gb image. Consensus seems to be that one shouldn't use a prebuilt image, but I figured I couldn't go wrong with what was seemingly regarded as one of the best. And, so far so good!

We don't support 3rd party images. Ask the author(s) of the image for support, or use the image from retropie.org.uk/download.
