If i was in your shoes and i had spare heatsinks laying around i would still put one on a Pi Zero just as a safety precaution and also like you said you are using a case for the Zero which leaves no ventilation for it as well.
Overall always best to be safe than to be sorry after.

The original error I had, about the invalid pointer, still occurs occasionally. I'm also having a new problem, where upon returning to the menu after playing a game, my D-pad acts like its stuck. I remember this being a problem before because of the raphnet NES adapter. It's weird. My whole system acts like the "update all installed packages" essentially did a format and fresh install.

@lostless aha, ok then.

@TheGamer What games in particular are you having issues with. The original NES had lots of slow down, and emulators are doing exactly what the original NES did. If the sound doesn't sound choppy, but sounds normal, its just the original slow down in the game.

As far as the EU vs US, EU games ran 4% slower.

The video preview are not working for me !!!! I use carbon and all i have is images as usual but no video preview !!

I've determined the problem was bad USB ports on my thunderbolt breakout hub. For some reason ApplePi-Baker doesn't notice that something went wrong and tells the user that the operation was successful. When I do it directly from my iMac's USB port, it took around an hour and the RetroPie is booting up successfully. This will now be the second time I have to return my OWC thunderbolt interface. :( Thanks for your help!

Yeah I'm thinking it might just be best to start from scratch and be done with it. I'm just hoping I can put my roms back on it. I do have a back up on my computer but I can't access my roms individually, I'm still learning how this stuff goes but might have to start over on that which is too bad cause I had over 5000 games...

Make sure you are using an official image, or have done a manual install yourself. We will not support 3rd party images.

@TMNTturtlguy So I ended up writing a small patch for the sselph scraper after all, I'll just have to run the scraper from my desktop machine instead of the raspi. (And if I do that, I can also write all the files locally first so that I don't have to keep emulationstation shut down during scraping, which will be a nice side benefit). I also submitted a pull request to add this feature to the mainline scraper which people can see here.

Solution Found! For anyone else having problems with Leonardo/Micro problems, it's just a matter of adding a string to the end of the line in /boot/cmdline.txt depending on your setup:

usbhid.quirks=0x2341:0x8036:0x040 (for Leonardo)
usbhid.quirks=0x2341:0x8037:0x040 (for Micro)

yes, the small buttons are this generic options about side buttons surely pinball is a perfect match, but anyway they can be used for wathever reason
