@studysession double check your GPIO connection. Also try switching to unsafe shutdown (switch in the case PCB) if you have that and see if you have it to power on.

This is a common problem for arcade emulation, so you maybe want to read and understand how that works first, from https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/.
If the ROM doesn't work, then you'll need to find the correct ROMset version for your emulator and get the ROM from that collection version.

If the issue appears only for arcade ROMs, then most likely your retroarch.cfg for that system is incorrect. Find the file \\retropie\configs\arcade\retroarch.cfg and replace its contents with

# Settings made here will only override settings in the global retroarch.cfg if placed above the #include line input_remapping_directory = "/opt/retropie/configs/arcade/" #include "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg"

Try again to boot an arcade ROM and see if it works.

I've already tried to downclock the device, that didn't help a lot though, yes I have overvoltage set to 6, however I tried to disable it for testing purposes, sadly it didn't help.
I actually only used gles2rice since my games then run at 1080p, all of the other options run at a realy low res, and when I look into the menu where you can change the video output, it's set to 1080p.

So I think my new question would be then how to set the "real" resolution for one of the better emulators to 1080p.

@Clyde That would be awesome. I've written a script that will take a folder of videos and, using FFmpeg, overlay images on top of them like scan lines and a bezel and spit out a new video. It would be so nice to be able to do this as an image instead like retroarch does.

@challenger2010 A bit strange since the filesystem should be the same (ext4) in RetroPie 4.5 and 4.6 resp. Debian Stretch and Buster. But good to hear that your problem is gone. And thanks for sharing your solution.

My experience with (retropie 4.6) is that (luckily) it doesn't. Which at least for my purposes is good. Should this change at some future version, then if 'input_enable_hotkey =" and single press hotkeys are what's desired, then one would need to change that mapping in RetroArch configurations somewhere to avoid exiting emulator when Start is pressed. (it's almost like the old joke on Windows - you press start to to stop/exit ;-) ).

If you're still using mame4all, then I don't think there's a solution - it's a known problem and since there's no new development is happening for this emulator, it's unlikely it got fixed. I think there was a recent topic with the same symptoms for the latest RetroPie version.

@mitu Actually, it's a lot quicker with omxplayer disabled. Are there any actual benefits to having it enabled?

UPDATE: Seems that a lot of clips only play audio

Any solution to this? I'm using an xbox 360 controller and I'm on retropie 4.6 for rpi4

Yes, because, as I explained before, vlc now uses the same path to decode videos as omxplayer.

Ah, apparently these are patches for vlc and the libvlc..

These are already included in Raspbian (and therefore RetroPie) and used internally by libvlc. Those patches are the reason that vlc behaves similarly to omxplayer.

I feel like my last statement from my previous reply was misleading - I was referring to the fact that if we force vlc to use SW decoding, then we'll lose the HW decoding advantage from the RPI patches added to vlc. Right now, we don't configure libvlc in EmulationStation, so the only option currently for those troublesome videos is conversion.

Out of curiosity, what is the development path forward for 64-bit RPiOS? Omxplayer is officially deprecated in favor of VLC by RPiT so it looks like its VLC or die...

I solved my own problem! I modified the EmulationStation startup script to toggle back and forth between horizontal and vertical mode on a restart. So, now I can rotate my monitor, restart EmulationStation, and my menus match the orientation. Here is the updated file:

ok it's mean more logic, but i saw openbor-6xxx-4rpi3.sh in scriptmodules. So I would launch it ( like a stupid noob who I am ^^ ).
