@digi Earlier I said that MAME4ALL needs to be configured. Which MAME are you trying?

Huge apologies for breaking the rules.

I'm very new at this so I was answering what I thought was the question, when it wasn't that.

Tonight when I get a change I'll look and be more correct in my answer to what you're looking for.

    Thanks

  • Best way to run a vertical monitor?

@morpie For what it's worth, I have a cocktail style cabinet and play most vertical games rotated by Retroarch (my setup has a three-sided control panel) and performance is great on those games. Actually, vertical orientation works great in other emulators as well. For example, Tempest in AdvanceMAME runs fine rotated to fill a vertical.

I still use Emulation Station as a front-end since this can be managed from the horizontal position on my system. However, I am using an LCD display upside-down (this is typically the best viewing angle for a table top cocktail design) and I need to rotate everything 180 degrees using config.txt. I don't believe my system pays much of a penalty for that, if any. But I did try running with 90 degree rotation at the system level and I can confirm that games definitely slow down.

So, from personal experience, if you can keep the operating system horizontal and let the emulators do the rotation for vertical games, you get the best performance. And if Attract Mode has the ability to rotate itself, well, that's the best vertical solution I have heard of on the Pi so far.

Sorry, I purchased Raspberry Pie 3, and downloaded Retropie and have version 4.1

Everything I installed was from common search online.

I went to update something a few weeks back while tinkering and since then in the menu alone it's given the attempt to update python and then nothing

I can provide a picture if that would be helpful.

So I found out that after doing a fresh install mupen64plus has changed where it references the game saves in a different folder being .local/share/mupen64plus/save folder. However, legend of zelda does not seem to recognize the .Sra or the .srm file I copied to that directory. Making progress, but not finished yet. Figured I'd post my findings for anyone else having issue or to see if anyone else had any suggestions.

@seffdog1 https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - what's your system ? Which emulator are you using ? Give us some more details about your setup to be able to help.

It seems you might have re-configured the RetroArch controller settings for the psx core, try removing the core settings from the /opt/retropie/configs/psx/ folder.

Yup, that "Finish him" bug in mk.zip is a pain. It replaces all phrases with "Finish him"and makes the game feel like a bad hack.

I don't recall that being present in previous versions of the core.

can I please get very detailed advice on how to fix this issue? Thanks so much in advance.

Not unless you provide very detailed descriptions of your entire setup. That only makes sense, right?

@tomume https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#installing-additional-emulators - choose to install the emulators for MSX - lr-bluemsx. Then restart ES and see if your ROMs (and the MSX folder) appear.
Check the file extension and make sure you use lowecase for the ROMs.

@thebear123 Yes. It very much matters in MAME. The emulator is looking for a specific ROM name as MAME ROMs have a standard naming convention.

@ben-almonte Update to retropie 4.3. Reconfigure your controller. The last button to configure is the hotkey, so you can assign that to something other than select.

  • ScummVM page shows subfolders for each game

    I found a workaround:

I added a .scm-File to the root aof the scummvm-games-folder.

For atlantis i have the atlantis.scummvm-file insidde the atlantis-folder and a atlantis.scm-file outside that folder.

In es_systems.cfg i changed the command:

    <command>RetroArch\retroarch.exe -f -L "RetroArch\cores\scummvm_libretro.dll" "PATHTORETROGAMES\retro\ScummVM\games%BASENAME%%BASENAME%.scummvm"</command>

and changed the extension to scm.
    <extension>.scm</extension>

This means EmulationStation sees the .scm-file as the rom and adds it to the gamelist without annoying subfolders.
When starting the rom, wo don't care about the fake .scm-file. We grab only the basename and assume there is a folder with the same basename with the scummvm-file inside it.
