@PoppyC You won't get very far trying out random roms on various mame emulators - see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/

Ok, last ditch effort. When you launch a game, the box pops up onscreen. That is the launchcommand box. When you press a button you go into the launchcommand dialog where you can set video modes, etc. If you go into there, one of the options is "EDIT CUSTOM RETROARCH CONFIG FOR THIS ROM" - try typing the code manually into that area and saving. That will create the config file in your roms folder that you can edit further if needed.

If the file is created, and the effect still doesnt work, try putting nul in quotes ("nul") OR put a random number in there that the controller cannot support "99" would pull a button that doesnt exist.

If that doesn't work, im not sure what to tell ya, i use this method all the time for my arcade roms because they dont have consistent controls. I would use remapping but my arcade is all keyboard controls so retroarch config file edits work fine.

misread - thought you were asking for help sorry. Not sure what the problem was but it should work out of the box. If you have further issues please do start a new topic though.

@Freakadude do what @Syntaxerror999 said to do for hdmi audio. For audio through the jack you need to go into the retropie menu on the emulationstation menu and go into audio and switch from hdmi to 3.5mm jack

@daeks strange as it shouldn't kill runcommand but the child. You could try meleu's suggestion, or just don't allow restarting if a game is running.

@pjft I had actually changed my hotkey for the RA menu in-game to be R/L/down/Y, which was working before, but isn't anymore. Maybe I can use the keyboard to get in and then go from there.

I installed xboxdrv after this started, hoping it would fix the issue I was having with the 360 controller. It didn't appear to change anything.

@rulmismo just open the MAME menu in game using TAB and configure input per ROM or per Core.

I'm still not sure what's going on. It seems like any new NES rom I load onto the retropie experiences the same issue. When I say new I mean any rom that wasn't already previously loaded on the retropie before I started to experience the issue.

I downloaded a fresh set of no-intro roms and verified they were correct using clrmamepro. I compared one of the currently working roms [Addams Family, The (USA).nes] to one of the ones in the new set I downloaded i.e.

    Addams Family, The (USA).nes

    CRC32: 94A230A9 MD5: 56DF8432043A2D724BAB64FEB39912D5 SHA-1: 7E236610BDFDE5A439A19E18C873982E2C607643

Everything matched so I know I'm using the correct set of roms.

I then tried to add a new rom from the same set [10-Yard Fight (USA, Europe).nes], however this rom won't load, it experiences the same problem as the other roms I described in my earlier post i.e. the screen turns black for a couple of seconds then comes back to the rom list.

    10-Yard Fight (USA, Europe).nes

    CRC32: B312DF62 MD5: 0E2E5DD0C3D8A48C28588DA93EAFA82B SHA-1: ED2E5D9B4BEC0A87BAD56930A2482F752C0E06EC

Any ideas on how to fix this?

The default virtual keyboard (matchbox-keyboard) has an issue where the desktop becomes unresponsive while the keyboard is open, so use xvkbd instead. I'll edit this post with instructions later

I didn't map the X360 guitar controller before, because it was already working in EmulationStation and in Moonlight as well. I could navigate all the menus and select my games.

Now I did map my guitar controller and launched the game, but the problem persists. It seems, more and more, that this is a Phase Shift issue.

@amoreau13 said in iBuffalo USB Controller Works in Menus not in Games:

Trying to setup a new iBuffalo USB 8 button controller. Runs through the standard emulation station setup just fine. I've also successfully used JSTEST to test out the controller and it passes the test. When I get into games the start button doesn't work so you cannot start a game and cannot exit a game. When loading the game I get the little yellow message and it says the controller is not configured. I've scoured the web for answers and haven't come up with anything.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi3 and the latest version of Retropie. I have a Logitech F310 controller that works just fine with the system. No issues at all with the start button.

Any suggestions as to what I can try? I've tried reprogramming the controller several times using emulation station.

    Adding some info to request:

Raspberry Pi 3 Retropie 4.1 downloaded from Retropie web site Experiencing controller issue with stock emulators in Retropie - Sega Genesis games and NES games tested so far - select and start buttons do not work. Used JSTEST to make sure I had the button numbers correct on the controller in the config file. Controller is iBuffalo USB SNES controller
