Sincere thanks, guys. I finally got it to work last night by installing a completely different build (Steve Smith's triple-boot at http://www.multibootpi.com/). Still not sure what happened, as this setup just worked smoothly, ROMs transfer just fine, etc. THEN I had to learn about the wonders of HDMI sound being flaky on RPi, and adjusting the config file to activate it. Interestingly, it didn't work plugged directly into my small TV, but it works fine plugged through the receiver connected to my big TV.

@julian2000P how many raspberries do you see during boot?

Whats your download speed? Or you can get my torrent (the one post above) currently we have 19 seeders.

@JHNTR looks like you're missing all the dependencies it says you're missing.

Also format your logs properly as described on the read this first page

i can't really diagnose without all relevant cfg files (both /all/retroarch.cfg and /whichever-mame/retroarch.cfg) in full and all the rest of the questions asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. also ideally a screenshot of the issue (can do this in retroarch quickmenu)

if you're getting spam warnings try uploading them to pastebin or wherever

Two issues:

CSS of reply field is not up to its task. The window is way too tiny. You need to disable CSS, then edit your post, then enable CSS again to press submit. Luckily I have Webdeveloper tools.

Also once you have more than one Raspberry Pi RetroPie set up, you can use @bfenty's guide to set up BitTorrent Sync to keep multiple RetroPie consoles in sync (same roms and save states).

@meleu this now explains why i could never get the joystick selection image to show up. I never had the xml in the first location so when i installed the joystick selection option it created an xml in that location for the joystick selection only. Updating the retropie today must have created all the other entries.

I just found that a lot of others are having the issues with rom sets - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5207/some-games-load-some-don-t-nes-fceumm-core/34 - going to try lr-nestopia and potentially zip with zero compression to see if that helps.

Not sure if this is the same issue with the controller not working though.

@turtlebear sounds like you accidentally changed the save slot (select+left / select+right).

@koldar try re-enabling the usbromservice from the setup script just for kicks. And when plugging in your USB wait a little longer, perhaps reboot the pi as well with the USB in if it still doesn't copy over. If it doesn't at that point if you have a keyboard you can check the filesystem, or if you have it on the network you can transfer ROMs that way
