@hermit NTSC filters is not the same thing as setting the machine itself to be NTSC. NTSC filters is a bunch of settings that let you do finetuned video effects, sort of like the shaders in Retroarch. They work in the standalone atari800 emu, but not in lr-atari800.

I have NTSC working just fine here in lr-atari800 -- in fact, if you see this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/22392/lr-atari800-5200-artifacting-basic-and-other-guidance you will see comparison shots of PAL vs NTSC.

@OldSchool Did you research if this is actually necessary? I used my 250 GB Samsung EVO 840 connected with an SATA-to-USB adapter to one of the USB2 ports of my Pi 3B (without +) for over two years without any problems, and now its connected to my new Pi 4B Rev 1.2 via USB3 for a month, again without any issues.

What problems exactly do you expect and where did you learn about them?

edit: I should mention that I also had/have a PacDrive LED controller for my 18 illuminated buttons and a wireless Mayflash Wii-U Pro gamepad adapter connected to the USB ports of both of my Pis, all of them without external power. The only somewhat funny "issue" I noticed is that the buttons flicker ever so slightly when the ssd is being accessed. ๐Ÿ˜Š

@xtv Just out of curiosity: Did you actually use beetle-psx on a Pi (which one?) and if so, how did it hold up since it's known for being too slow on ARM?

That's very unfortunate. ๐Ÿ˜” I was hoping myself to get rid of my hardware HDMI splitter now that the Pi 4 has two outputs.

: With OMX, the videos froze the Pi 4 only in the game list, while VLC froze only in the video screensaver.

Hm, that may be something new. If you disable the audio for video, do you still get the crash with omxplayer ?

I couldn't reproduce this in my new installation from the official image before the update. In fact, I found out that it was not the videos that crashed, but the navigation sounds from Emulation Station! I did suspect the videos because any time I tried to move to another game in the list, the system froze so hard that only the Magic SysReq keys REISUB or a hard reset could help.

I'll post my further findings in the thread Failed to find mixer elementsโ€ฆ since they are definately off-topic here now.

@tiffanitza I had exactly the same issue. I could edit the controller config in redream and assign a button to exit the emulator but it only worked once. When I went back into redream the button was set back to none. I ran the command chmod 777 /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/dc/dc_boot.bin and chmod 777 /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/dc/dc_flash.bin

Now when the button is set and I exit redream it is saved. Works every time now and even after reboots and power downs.

@scousetrooper In this case, the disc usage might come from Skyscraper's cache. Try moving the cache from $HOME/.skyscraper/cache to your disc - besides moving the actual folder, you'll have to amend $HOME/.skyscraper/config.ini to point it to the new location - see https://github.com/muldjord/skyscraper/blob/master/docs/CONFIGINI.md.

    @sexbeer

I had a similar issue. It's related to a Pi OS update rather than RetroPie itself. There appears to be a few solutions depending on your setup, but the quickest, hassle free way of fixing for the time being is to open up your /boot/cmdline.txt and add the following to the end, which enables ALSA compatible mode:

    snd-bcm2835.enable_compat_alsa=1

If you haven't changed anything else to try to get it to work, a reboot should be all that is required.

    Thanks

Hey bud, we are in the same boat. Run jstest and write down all the inputs and corresponding numbers. Use your Rii to hit f1 while in lr-mupen64plus-next to open the retroarch GUI and scroll down to "controls", then remap everything according to you jstest results. This got me to the point where every button works except for c-up and c-right. Please let me know if you can get any further or if you've already solved the issue.

    @pegasus1130
I am dealing with a similar issue and I am now very, very close to getting it working. I found a post from a year or so ago which suggested that opening the retroarch GUI from within the emulator, then remapping from the "control" menu therein. For me, this involved hitting f1 on a keyboard to bring up the retroarch gui and then switching each button around according to the results of jstest, and finally saving a "core remap file". This let me fix everything but a few buttons. The issue that remains is that there is no listing in that controls menu for buttons 0 and 1, which are my C up and C right.

@mitu I have the exact same issue (I made a post about it [here(https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26598/problem-with-controller-mapping-being-different-in-games-and-menu)). If youโ€™re able to help: I use a RPi 3 b+ with a pre made SD image (v. 4.6) from the official Retropie website. I am using a wireless Arrogant Bastard controller with dongle.

@mitu Hey mitu! Thanks for the suggestions. I figured it out after - I simply tried plugging it into a TV instead of my monitor, and no issues - I can see everything just fine. I think I had the wrong resolution settings perhaps, or maybe it was something to do with the high refresh rate. Regardless, thanks!

No, you can't re-use the same image on the Pi4. You'd have to either reinstall RetroPie (manually) or use a Pi3 compatible image.

@Jackarinus Request for ROMs are against the forum rules. If you have a specific support question, I advise you open a new topic instead of replying to year old ones.

I don't want to start over if I buy a raspberry Pi 4 as it took me a long time to put this image together.

this was an image downloaded from arcade punks

You lied. You refuse to start over fresh on a pi4 because you decided to stay ignorant on a DIY hobby. You ordered the old 3b+ because of this. /facepalm.
Arcade Punks have their own forum if you don't agree with the rules here.

I see no difference downloading an image with games included and ready to go.

Their configurations are altered which produces bugs unique to those images. One of the reasons we won't troubleshoot those.

My 3b+ arrived last night and yes, the SD card image works. So relieved! ๐Ÿ˜

Oh...and when I said that it took me a long time to put together I wasn't lying. Just because I didn't download everything required separately doesn't mean it was easy.

My computer is roughly 15 years old and it took a long time to transfer over everything to the SD card when the download was done. Had to keep the computer on overnight to finish the transfer. Not to mention downloading a 64gb file took all day.

So that's why I didn't want to start over. If that's a form of ignorance then so be it.
I got an awesome image with over 22,000 games on it. It took a long time to get that done so it's natural I wanted to preserve it and not start over.

The new pie is running considerably faster and I am enjoying it thoroughly. Hell, I might do it the old-fashioned way and build something from scratch now that I have a faster board. I really didn't need a raspberry Pi 4 anyway because I wasn't using it to play harder games like Dreamcast, N64or PSP.

I have no regrets buying "old" hardware as you put it. I stand by my decision regardless of what anybody thinks. I also saved a lot of money going this route because all I ordered was the board and nothing else. I already have a power supply that works with it and a raspberry Pi 2 case that fits. If I bought the raspberry Pi 4, I would have spent double because I have to buy everything from scratch.

So what's that saying... Ignorance is bliss!!!
    Yes sir it is. ๐Ÿ‘
