      PS3 Controller | Ubuntu 16.04 - can't use in RetroPie-Setup or advanced rom settings

Ignore that - I misunderstood (And the PS3 controller does work ok in Ubuntu 16.04 unlike I said above - I just had to configure it by holding the playstation button it seemed).

You mean it's fine in ES and games, just no good in the retropie-setup menu ?

It works - it's just it doesn't use the same mapping. Left analog moves, and select will choose an option. This will be resolved at some point in the future, but the menus were never originally designed for navigating via joypad - it was added later via joystick to keyboard mapping. Since it;s mostly configuration and you are on a PC, it's not a big deal to use a keyboard to configure if you don't like the ps3 mapping.

@Mihto 3rd party / clone ps3 controller support is limited at best - i would recommend getting another controller tbh (which you have done).

I too found that additional bluetooth devices could not be added while the PS3 driver is enabled.

@soulgriever that driver should probably not be used on Ubuntu etc. You should be able to pair a ps3 controller via the desktop Bluetooth GUI etc. However there are some known issues with ps3 and sdl2 which are not resolved on x86 - we have a custom sdl2 for the RPI, but it's not yet available for x86 etc.

Realised I wasn't setting up the PS3 controller correctly by not using a USB cable for the initial set up. Marking this topic as solved.

@maximus76 the page on the wiki works. If it doesn't show up, you should keep trying. Make sure you have the latest non beta firmware. I have 3 8bitdo controllers all paired with those instructions.

@dankcushions said in Random Button Presses When Using Wii U Pro Controller:

if the issue is with the pi's onboard bluetooth, then the only people who could fix it are those supporting the linux drivers/firmware, not retropie.

This thread seems to suggest that some controllers don't filter their signals sufficiently and the Pi doesn't do that either. USB and wireless adapters tend to filter these micro signals, thereby fixing the problem, as does adding capacitors to the faulty controllers (final confirmation).

The question is, can it be considered an error on the part of the Pi that it's "too sensitive", if the actual fault lies with the controllers.

Hi peeps, first post on here after getting my Pi yesterday.

So, Xbox One S controllers eh, who knew they would be so much trouble? I've been tearing my hair out since yesterday, but found a solution to my issue, so hopefully someone else will find this post helpful!

It's been well documented that in order to pair or connect a modern Xbox One S controller (bluetooth) you have to disable the ertm option, and I'd had success when running this from the command line after boot up...

      sudo bash -c 'echo 1 > /sys/module/bluetooth/parameters/disable_ertm'
      cat /sys/module/bluetooth/parameters/disable_ertm
(the second command will return 'Y' when ertm is disabled, and 'N' when still enabled)

However I could not get it to persist using the suggested method i.e. adding it to /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh directly before the 'emulationstation #auto' line, so I would have to log in with puTTY and run the command manually every single time I wanted to use the Xbox controller! (super annoying).

So, happily I finally found another way to disable ertm for bluetooth.

Create a new file using nano...
      sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/bluetooth.conf

Add a single line to the new file...
      options bluetooth disable_ertm=Y

Exit nano, saving the file in the process.

For reference, I'm using the latest release of Raspbian Stretch and RetroPie at time of going to press (December 2018), on a Pi 3 Model B+.

I was actually suggesting that you branch out to other locations on the web, but perhaps having it's own post here may help. However, please keep in mind that if you do not get a reply there that "bumping" or "upping" your posts is not looked kindly upon.

Following up on my own thread.

After my great experience with four controllers, two wireless and two wired, I decided to bite the bullet and order two more NES30's. Works great so far. Granted I've only played Super Bomberman 3 with four controllers, but I haven't seen any anomalies.

Okay, my mistake: tried out the Ipega controller again and ES (and, apparently, Retroarch) doesn't consider it to be a gamepad at all. DS4 is recognized, however.

Also, I don't have a working wired controller now, unfortunately.
