      I know this is old, but this is the only thread that keeps coming up in searches that has fixed this problem for me, and I wanted to say thanks, and also include my controller model in case it helps anyone else.

      Controller: GameSir G3s controller in X-input mode.
      Left and right triggers were working at one point, and somewhere along the line, remapping the controller broke analog L2/R2. However, manually editing the config, like the user above (rilight) to +2 and +5 (yes, you need the + in there), fixed it for me. Specifically, this problem was plaguing me while playing OutRun on MAME.

      Just wanted to say thanks to mitu and rilight. ;-)

      @mitu
      I'm using dpad always I'll try the test and report back.
      Jstest passed all presses worked.
      It seems to be behaving after following a youtube
      Guide for resetting the controller and holding down analog sticks for 30 secs etc.. Also I cleaned the sticks.

      I know I'm not using analog IN ES but if they are sticking sometimes maybe it causes issues.

      I get the problem almost everytime and so far the last 4 reboots it's been fine.

      Update problem has not come back since cleaning and following analog drift fix guides on YouTube. I didn't have to take apart controller. Very pleased.

      Welcome to this forum. Please provide more information about your setup:

      all the information that's asked for in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first What do you mean by "not the same"? Are the control settings different or gone? Does the effect happen in Emulation Station (the frontend where you choose the games) and/or in the games themselves? What kind of "a few things" did you try?

      edit: typo

      Which mame emulator?

      I have close to your same setup, minipac for P1/P2 with real arcade sticks/buttons and two usb xbox style controllers. My issue was with advmame and was that the controllers were already mapped to p1/p2, and when I mapped my minipac to p1/p2 then both were setup on same player. The fix for me at least was to delete the mappings for p1/p2 first and then set minipac to p1/p2 and xbox ones to p3/p4.

      If you are using lr-mame-2003 etc not sure if that would be the same problem but worth checking. There are also different roms for 2p vs 4p ones for simpsons and tmnt. Not sure about the other two. I never tried a 2p one, so not even sure it shows 4 players as an option on those.

      Thank you for the heads up. I've managed to get this resolved. for my 4 player games I set it to use lr-mame-2003 instead of lr-fbneo. The mame2003 emulator is much easier to work with. Once the game loaded up I pressed tab on the keyboard and then amended the input for the game. I reconfigured the buttons for each player and now it works as expected.

      NBA JAM threw me as if you want 2 players to play on opposing teams the joysticks have to be setup as player 1 and 3. Player 2 and 4 are on the usb gamepads as they are the team mates for player 1 and 3.

      @joesnow81 there are allready dozens of "recommend a controller" threads here.
      Always in the Charts are those from 8BitDo, the Dualshock3, X360 and WiiU Controllers. Wired or BT: they all do their job well.

      Did you configure your controller in EmulationStation ? The configuration you set there should create automatically the configuration for RetroArch - so you don't need to re-configure it again in each libretro core.
      How did you install RetroPie ?

      There's little info here, but if the controller is not detected at all (even in EmulationStation), maybe there's something wrong with the controllers or the USB ports on the Pi. Do they get detected when plugged in a windows PC ?

      @mirkog ok, i see!
      Indeed i changed the controls under "custom controls" and set "Port0" and "Port1" to my joypads and finally saved that config.
      I had an Amiga2000 back in 1989 (to 1991) and therefore was used to this procedure.
      You had to pull out the mouse and insert a joystick on the real machine too 😉

      @mitu said in Retro-Bit Sega Mega Drive/Genesis 2.4 GHz Wireless Controller incompatible/issues:

      Start the gamepad in a different 'mode' and see if the button is recognized as a gamepad input.

      I have found 6 different wireless modes:

      Key Mode LEDs Y Switch Strobe X Mac 3,4 Z ? 2,3 A Android 1 B D-Input 3 C ? 1,3

      Switch pairs and is recognised as a controller in configure input, but holding down a button doesn't do anything, so I can't bind anything.

      Mac mode, holding down home shows 'keyboard' but when I go in to key binding it lets me bind the home button. It doesn't let me bind the Z and C buttons.

      Z,A,B,C mode all have the same issue with the home button as described above.

      There is a wired X-Input mode (LED 2) which allows me to bind all buttons but I can't figure out if there's a wireless version of this.

      There is a wired PS3 mode which also allows me to bind all buttons, but I also can't figure out how to get it to pair wirelessly in this mode.

      Is there no way to manually bind whatever keyboard button it thinks it is?

      Is this a bug with anything else, or a fundamental issue with the hardware?

      The way RetroPie manages this is by running an additional script after the input configuration phase - see here. The script then reads the es_temporaryinput.cfg file and generates auto-configuration for various emulators - see the script here.
      You can probably create a similar utility (in Delphi/Pascal) that parses the es_temporaryinput.cfg file and generates configurations for the emulators you need.
