Video screensaver displays "Mega Drive" as system on MD/Genesis titles even when platforms.cfg has been created to display elsewhere as Genesis. Is there a solution to this?

Hey, i wanted to ask a somewhat related question: what could be the reason that my screensaver never plays genesis snaps when the screensaver is running? Every system i have on my retropie 4.4 makes an appearance as a random video screensaver and it doesnt matter if the snaps are located within the emulationstation folder or in the rom folder for the system itself. I'm just puzzled as to why my genesis games don't show it. Would it have anything to do with having changed all mentions of megadrive to genesis within emulationstation and this having borked whatever emulationstation looks to when seeking random videos?

      @herb_fargus said in Emulationstation Translation:

Anyways to each their own, we all have our pieces to play in developing the project

Yes and my piece, what I want to do, is to bring EmulationStation to today's standards regarding ergonomic and design, while keeping a "retro touch".

I love the RetroPie community, but I'm afraid we have conflicting goals. I know that you aren't against this kind of changes, as long as I provide support for it, but I may not always be here to do it.

Beside the grid view, I also wanted to bring Localization to ES, but got quickly demotivated because Buzz said he fear this will add too much, unwanted, extra work in future developments. I and many others liked the idea, but I don't want to force you (RetroPie core team) to have it if you don't want it.

@marion A very good point is made by @rbaker above. Those of us with arcade panels have built them differently, but we might also have our IPAC devices configured differently, so even if we did share config files, the hardware keys mapped inside the IPAC may not match.

The image above in rbaker's post shows the button layout as two rows of four buttons:

      1sw1 1sw2 1sw3 1sw4 1sw5 1sw6 1sw7 1sw8

while my panel looks like this:

      1sw1 1sw2 1sw3 1sw4 1sw5 1sw6

Furthermore, while rbaker uses LSHIFT for 1sw1, I am using LCONTROL. This is the keystroke that gets sent when I press my button wired to 1sw1 because that is how my IPAC is configured (i.e. using WinIPAC utility). The wiring matters, the location on your panel matters, and the actual key the IPAC is sending matters--and this is BEFORE any mapping is configured inside a retroarch.cfg file.

The easiest way to figure this out is to make a little drawing of your panel, label all of the switches as wired. Then, either run a test program or hook up the IPAC to a windows box and run WinIPAC. Then, mark on your drawing which buttons are sending which keys.

Finally, you should be able to look at a retroarch.cfg file which identifies the common gamepad button names, (a, b, x, y, etc) and you should be able to mark which IPAC keys should trigger these inputs based on which button/position you want to send each input.

Hello, i guess i was talking about SSH. Im using WinSCP to log into my Pi.

When i type in //Retropie/ i can access the bios, configs, roms and splashscreen folder but i still cant see my Pi under network.

I managed to get access to all my files now. Had to add sudo -s under SCP/Shell options.

Good enough for me i guess. Thanks for the tip @mitu .

@Fr3d You need to hold down the button for a couple of seconds. If you still have problems, open a new topic and provide the information asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

      Update

For anyone else trying this, I tried many different combinations of drivers and commands/scenarios. Including cycling through all the pairing modes. The best I seemed to get it was by pairing it into "Android B" mode, and from emulation station I was able to get it to recognize as a keyboard, but it only recognized a single button. Strange.

Unfortunately, c64 and spectrum joysticks only had one fire button command, no matter how many physical buttons there were.

The adapter may support more buttons on the output, but if it has no difference in the incoming signal, it won't be able to do anything else.

@mrdowntempo no problem. Just remember one thing, linux is case sensitive so caps and lowercase are important. Even though if you are inside dosbox and you want to run say WOLF.EXE you can type wolf or wolf.exe, when you do it in a .sh file, even though it actually runs the commands inside of dosbox you have to have it say WOLF.EXE.

However, if you do it in a .conf file it doesnt matter.
