@camjrp You need to install it first, then follow the documentation on how to configure your es_systems.cfg so that it starts RetroArch with the right cores on the SNES/PSX games.
As an example, RetroPie uses something like

      retroarch -L <PATH_TO_CORES>/snes9x_libretro.so %ROM%"

to start RetroArch with the right Libretro core for the SNES system.

      Version 2.7.6

I have an image all set up for my RPi, but I recently got an odroid XU4 and am looking at porting as much custom esthetic as possible.
I do see that the RetroPie branch does not have the converted .cpp folder. Honestly this whole project for me is about learning how these systems work.

Thank you again for your quick response :)

Here's an article with three different options: https://www.ostechnix.com/test-your-bash-skills-by-playing-command-line-games/

The last one can be played offline. I haven't tried them all, but they should be plenty to teach you the basics.
You should know when to stop though. The wargames site goes into some very advanced stuff which you'll never use. Most of the stuff you need will probably be in the first level.

@mitu Yeah, it seems to. I'll try to switch over to Pegasus, that may offer touch functionality.

That teaches one to tidy up behind oneself after compiling, lest you'll find the remains later when you don't remember putting them there. 😊

(Alas, data remains don't tend to decompose by themselves like other remains do.)

Thanks for the replies folks. Turns out the whole black screen thing on reboot is me being impatient while it restores the space on the new SD card.

I tried it all again from scratch with Pishrink, only this time left it for about 20 minutes after the splash screen then black screen thing. It went to the black screen as before but I decided to be patient this time and after about 20 mins or so it rebooted itself into Emulationstation as it should. Everything seems to be running absolutely fine. Thrilled to bits! Really wanted to keep this image as I'd put a lot of weekends into it!

      Thanks again. :-)

Well... it looks like PSX is probably a no-go for this laptop. I was hoping after what @dankcushions said about the difference between Beetle and Rearmed that I'd have better performance with Beetle, but the GPU on this thing must be pretty terrible since the performance in Beetle is absolutely terrible and the game speed is about half of what it should be or less (on Symphony of the Night). I'm actually very close to getting good performance out of Rearmed. The gameplay itself seems fine, but I can't seem to get rid of the audio stutter no matter what I do. Shame since everything else seems to be running so well now.

Oh well. This was still fun and now I've got another piece of equipment set up with RetroPie as a backup for my work and it greatly outperforms the Pi Zero in any case. :)

@mediamogul said in Restore retropie-Kodi manually backup?:

      userdata

I'll give it a try and see what happens. But right now i'm having trouble with virtual box for using linux doesnt want to see my sd card to micro sd, I tried micro sd to usb. Virtualbox is very picky, it wants extra payment license for usb 2 n 3.0. very awkward situation.

Update, everything is mostly good. Dam its hard for me to setup ps3 controllers on retropie, it was easier on Jessie. I hope I don't mess up the controller pairing. Now I can backup one last time for safety, feels great. Last thing to do Mame delete some roms, and figure out roms sets editior, I know its documented here. I haven't done the games, but that should be really easy to do next.

@tigerknee That seems an over complicated stuff to do. The problem with ES running at same time as X.org was because input devices losing controll. I don't know if that is still true. Does it work fine, while the desktop is still running, like playing games and return to the desktop?

Slight correction to my above post. After restarting the pi, the stop emulationstation and start emulationstation script no longer works. It is stopping emulationstation but no longer will resume it.

Well I guess I got this figured out and on the way learned WHAT NOT TO DO lol.

Now to figure out this mausberry bit so I can get the switches to behave how I would like.....

Power = Power on and proper shutdown when powered on

Reset = when in emulation reset back to retropie gui/main screen, when at retropie main screen and reset is hit a proper reset is performed

Keep your eyes peeled for another noon post, because I've read a lot about these mausberry switches and am quite lost how to get the performance I would like.

I will make another thread for that tho as its completely off topic for this one.
