Well, you could download the new SDL2 based version and replace the existing one. Since it's better to unpack the archive on the Linux system, you can run from the terminal

      wget http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/dl/jzintv-20200712-linux-rpi-sdl2.zip sudo mc /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv

This will download the new version and open up MC with the location of the existing jzintv version on the left pane. On the right pane, browse for the .zip file you downloaded and then just press Enter over the selected file, you'll see the contents of the archive and you'd be able to copy the new jzintv binary over to the left.

ok so that may not have been my problem but i did get it paired but the only change i did was for something else which was turning off hardware acceleration cause it would crash when trying to scroll through games. dont have any idea how there connected though. but after that paired just fine.

why not the whole RetroPie build?

What advantages would that bring ? We're not using X11 on the Pi/other SBCs, only on x86.

Other than the fact that users can still be in a desktop environment after they quit ES I'm not sure. As for the RPi4 though, it appears that it can use the X11/EGL so long as you have a terminal window open.

In fact if you open terminal and run ES from it, it pretty much all but guarantees that's the case and well it works.

@djmoss - I have the exact same setup as you (Pi4, pi2scart, mx7000). I have a couple of problems with overscan. Did you fix this through the config?
If too much OT perhaps we can take it in a pm?

      Thanks! 😊

Plug your controller setup in your Pi without any other controller except the keyboard, boot it up, close ES and run this

      ls /dev/input/

It should show all input devices of which joysticks/joypads are shown as jsX (eg. js0, js1, ...).

If it is not present, try to look if the USB device is present with

      lsusb

If a controller is present and you want to test if the device translates the PS2 buttons correctly, run this and test

      jstest /dev/input/jsX

@filipinoy79 The installer checks if the Google's DNS IPs are routable from the Pi (8.8.8.8 for instance) and if that fails, it considers there is no internet available.
You can check with the command

      ip -4 route get 8.8.8.8

What's the output of the above command in your case ?

@Papp said in Rpi & error creating SDL window:

It's weird as the manufacturer explicitly suggested to comment that line for rp4.

That disables the GPU drivers for the Pi4 and makes your system unusable for RetroPie. Next time you report an issue, please include all pertinent information, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@shylock since more or less every videogame supported by retropie is in 4:3, you're always going to get borders on the top and bottom (rather than the left and right that you would get with a 16:9 display. integer scaling won't make a difference.

with vertical MAME games it would be a nice fit, though: smaller borders on left and right than (un-rotated) 4:3 or 16:9 screens.

you'd also probably need to get a custom emulationstation theme done, unless someone has already done a square one, otherwise it's going to a look a little funky it think.

      no idea about the performance...

Just for another subjective opinion, I'm content with MAME 2003-Plus (in arcade) and FB Neo (in fba) next to each other and see no need to change that after moving to a Pi 4.

For more recent MAME versions, I have my bigger computers. But I didn't feel the need for that for over two years now.

@kikeminchas That's also because of the update - see this post. You can revert the audio to the previous settings by adding snd-bcm2835.enable_compat_alsa=1 to the /boot/cmdline.txt, or modify the .cfg settings file for EmulationStation (as a workaround).

Ahh I get it. I thought the quick menu was the core options. I'm still finding my way around - there's a ton to retroarch!

Regarding runahead, I gave https://docs.libretro.com/guides/runahead/ a good read. I didn't try calculating the amount of runahead needed to offset the latency, but I just tried it set to 1 and the game and audio stutters. My Pi is currently setup stock speed if that matters.

Also, if I enable a second instance in there, I get Failed to create second instance.

Found the retroarch config thanks for the fps. So many places to set stuff.

      Cheers!

I've had this problem recently with Legend of Mana for psx. It was the controller type that was set to analog, but the game refused to work until I changed it back to standard and restarted it. Some cores/games are a bit finicky with analog controllers and how they're configured, in my experience. Try messing with that option to see if solves you problem.
