NTSC Shader (in Retroarch) won't load on Retropie? (Should it?)

i don't know the reason some shaders work and others don't, can't help you there sorry. but my best guess would be they are too powerful for the pi/ARM architecture and fail silently. with regard to this particular shader set, you might want to try using the files from the repo as they were just updated yesterday to "fix dumb typo" https://github.com/libretro/glsl-shaders/tree/master/ntsc

@flyingtomahawk said in crt-pi-vertical.glslp issue / horizontal lines only:

Curious, what overlay(s) are you using?

I have a set of arcade overlays that I got about 18 months ago. They all have machine bezels inside a fake cabinet with a background of an arcade along each side. I can't remember where they came from, but the screen in some of the images even has scratches and scuffs on it for authenticity.

@Garisaan i have done something sort of like this here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4046/crt-pi-shader-users-reduce-scaling-artifacts-with-these-configs-in-lr-mame2003-lr-fbalpha-lr-nestopia-and-more-to-come

if you use the last two links in that post, it will give you crt-pi-curvature-vertical shader in vertical mame games, and the regular curvature shader in the rest.

Any luck? Also, (I'm new to RetroPie) what are the steps you took to get the cocktail shader? I've been looking around, but have yet to figure out how to find it, let alone get it running. Help?

@andrewcoughlan Ok - I just tried the 4.2 basic image and it's worked fine. There's something I've done with my images that's throwing it out but I'm just going to rebuild my image and test along the way. Thanks DankCushions for your help!

BTW.....can I set this for the MAME (Mame4all) emulator...? I didn't see it listed in the RetroPie Setup options.

What about running games at low resolutions, but then using shaders to make it look acceptable? Or do the shaders always run at the emulated resolution?

Turns out it still doesn't work ! :(

I thought it did since I used the alternate line AFTER I changed the shader using the Retroarch GUI. Now even if I delete the new line or change it, no change to the shader :(

Somehow, changing the shader through the Retroarch GUI does it, whatever is in the retroarch.cfg file.

Now what I'm thinking, could it be something to do with file permissions ? That shader line, does it tell the system to change another file properties and maybe it isn't able to do it because of file permission ?

I am thinking about this since I see other posts about file permission issues, requiring to do something like :

      Sudo chown pi:pi /opt/retropie/configs/

Could that help ??? At work right now...

@Robster1727 for mame2003 and fba, easiest to use the pre-built configs: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4046/crt-pi-shader-users-reduce-scaling-artifacts-in-lr-mame2003-lr-fbalpha-horizontal-and-vertical-games

@PetroRie It won't affect shaders, which control this setting independently.

The only shader that this doesn't work with is this "crt hyllian glow" shader that i added myself since it didnt come with my image of retropie

Did you add the correct line as described in the link?

@rbaker and @rsimmy ...both methods worked! thanks guys!

So for anybody else who looks at this:

rsimmy's saving to core overrides seems to work for each while @rbaker method works for all...however you can take that script and use it for each core individually if you want to script it in to each one with whatever core you want, which of course takes time. but if you're going to do that, then just do rsimmy's method

      so rbaker method for global
and rsimmy method for each one

and either method sticks after reboot

      Ok I fixed this! :)

So for anyone that has this problem in the future this is what I have done:

Update the Retropie script in the retropie config menu Set the screen resolution & shader I wanted to use in the config menu Update from source the kid friendly emulation station add on (I tried uninstalling it first but that bricked the image) Test everything is working, Which for me it now appears to be :)

      Rbaker, Thanks for your input.
The kiosk mode I refer to is a experimental emulation station that allows the retro menu and a few other things to be locked out to make them child friendly.
I will also look at getting a bigger PSU.
      Thanks.

@batesman said in Two shader directories in 4.1?:

@dankcushions So is it possible to be able to cycle through the shaders without setting one as a default?

i think so. by default you need to hold your hotkey (select on your control pad) and press n or m on a keyboard, i believe.

You got it. I had to hold select on the control pad, then press m, n to cycle. Based on the way the hotkeys were defined in the retroarch.cfg file I thought I only needed to press m or n.

      Thanks!

@momaw27 i know this is quite old, but I decided to make a Gameboy color border of my own, because the green one is too small, credit goes to @DieKatz for the Gameboy Pocket border, along with @momaw27 for the Gameboy Color Logo. gbc-gcase-grid-resized.png
