Sorry for the delay in replying to this. Just wanted to update this post.

Ok so it looks like the joystick inputs, Start, Select and Buttons A and B cannot be skipped but once I get past those inputs I can skip away and save the config (by getting to the end).

So I just took some spare buttons I have and plugged them into the encoder and then once they were mapped I removed the psychical buttons I don't want leaving only one in my case.

Thanks to Mitu for the help

@Myrmior said in Asterisk on USB copied files:

When offloaded onto the SD card from the USB stick, the roms show up as a teal color in file manager and have an asterisk next to them.

That just means the files have the executable bit set, which is not a big deal and shouldn't have an effect on the game/rom being played. The problem is somewhere else.

      @dankcushions Here's my pastebin:

      https://pastebin.com/NR8ixXeM

If anybody sees anything interesting in there please let me know. I can't figure anything out in this file sadly.

I don't know if it's of any interest but I plugged in my USB pendrive, ran RetroPie, hit F4 to exit EmuStation, ran the command dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt, ran emulationstation, played a PSX game which froze pretty much instantly, exited the game, took the file via WinSCP and there it is.

I found this Howto about mounting a smartphone via mtp and jmtpfs in the directory tree of a Debian-based Linux system (such as Retropie).

      https://www.khalidalnajjar.com/connect-android-nougat-to-linux-using-usb/

It looks quite comprehensive and step-by-step to me. I can't say more about it, however, since I don't have a smartphone. :)

@papinist DL21 only works for DL, but on http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/ you can find enhanced versions of DL2 and SA as well. Look under "ROM Updates".

I think a separate thread would be better for your Daphne issues.

This is just my two cents, but I've not had good luck with 3.0 cables. Sometimes the controller wouldn't be recognized. I ended up stuffing them in a drawer and getting some 2.0 cables. They were the cheapest 3.0 cables on Amazon, so higher quality cables might work fine.

I eventually got some 8bitdo wireless controllers. They can sometimes be a headache, dealing with bluetooth issues. But the tangled up extension cables were a bigger constant headache.

Are you using an USB microSD card reader? Either way, the mounts on RetroPie are managed by usbmount, not by Kodi itself.

      Hello mitu,

thanks for your reply. I looked a the games.log file. no details of the crash.
I also tried the "set cvars" in the ingame control panel etc, still crashed.

not sure where to go from here.

@m2306 Yes, it's possible to use different gamepads as P1, depending on the system you play or choose at runtime. You can use Meleu's joystick selection tool to do that.

Use @meleu's joystick selections script, it allows you to choose the (player) order of the joysticks per core/system. But if you're DragonRise controllers are always USB connected, they'll probably always be js0 and js1, so I guess you can use the RetroArch gui and choose that player1/2 and joysticks on 3rd and 4th position and save the the core remapping.
For N64 though, I think you'll need to edit the configuration file explicitly if you're using the standalone Mupen64 - more details are in the docs for the emulator.
