Honestly, I can't really see something like this becoming successful. The Atari 2600 has the AtariAge crowd that loves developing homebrews and putting them on carts, but I personally don't see this happening with the NES. Not that it can't happen, but I think that the motivating force that drives their homebrew community isn't really there in the NES communities.

The 8-bit era was when a lot of iconic franchises like Mario, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, and Megaman came of age, and much of our love for the NES is tied strongly to our memories of those games. If you take a look at some of the 8-bit indie games out there like Shovel Knight, a lot them play the nostalgia card and are meant to remind us of those franchises.

The Atari 2600 was more about the games and not so much on characters (even Pitfall Harry is rather generic), so the focus becomes more on what you can do with limited sound/graphics and a one-button joystick. Unfortunately, that way of thinking doesn't work for the NES because it raised the bar for gaming as whole, and gave rise to memorable characters that we are now attached to. I can look past the fact that Wall Jump Ninja features a generic ninja and wonder what the gameplay is like, but my first reaction with Eskimo Bob is, why should I be interested?

Cool, but I'd like to stick with a retro controller @StormJH1 Quick question, are the n64 remotes prices going up? The n64 is the next step for me, (as it says in my signature) and I don't want the prices to go up too much.

@CodeDrawer If you're asking how to make a signature, go to the top right, click on your avatar, select "Edit Profile", then scroll down to the box that says "Signature"

Only audio issues I noted were when I closed out of Kodi, the menu audio was off by a second or so.

I use AdvanceMAME, although I believe the game will work in any of the RetroArch cores from 2010 on.

You'd have to run it through Moonlight/Steam. Unfortunately there's no official documentation for adding it. However, the specifics are discussed here.

@TMNTturtlguy - Thanks for your comments! I feel a little better now. Many of the people here who did suffer corruptions were able to diagnose it to a specific cause (losing power; bad power supply; overclocking; etc).

@Neuromante - No offense intended by the "obsessed with finding the best way of doing something" comment; I actually meant that as a compliment. As in, users like you are playing a higher stakes game of poker and pushing the envelope of what is possible with this inexpensive little computer, and then relaying that information back to more novice users like me. So, thanks!

Interesting project idea with the game saves/cloud thing, also!

For purposes of simply backing up the ROM files, I do plan on keeping an uncompressed list of ROMS on a HDD or flash drive that mirrors the one in my ROMs folder on the Pi. Obviously, this would be contained within a full microSD card image, also, but I'd like to have the collection ready to go in case I need to start over (like with a new operating system or different device).

I noticed the same thing when Sbake Man launch those little snakes in Mega Man 3. This is the same on the original hardware.

your sdram overclocks could cause sd corruption too i think. possibly the overvoltage also. personally i'd remove all forms of overclocking if you're seeing corruption/instability.

Thanks dankcushions. I wanted to know because I would like to buy a raspberry pi 3 model B knowing I can run the Mortal Kombat Games and any 80s arcade game before that. Furthermore, emulating PS1 is better than paying 20 to 50 dollars a game here in the USA. For example, I have a actual PS1 in my apartment but on EBAY Crash Bandicoot 1 is going for 35 to 50 dollars (Black Label Complete).

With prices like that, I might as well get a raspberry pi model 3 someday. Thanks for being patient with me.

    Have a good day :-)

    My turn !
I use a couple of my old PS3 controllers (no need to review those I think).

I also acquired a Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4, for arcade purpose.
It's a USB 8 buttons arcade stick, small and pretty light, but though and quite stable if put on a coffee table.
    I couldn't find better for 30€, and it's also compatible with PS3/4.

@Flavor Yeah I was able to install Raspian Lite with NOOBS and it worked fine. I am building this for a friend and would prefer the RetroPie, so it will just boot into it for him.
