actually i think there is a hardware problem with the controller.
as i booted retropie right now.. no controller was found. unless i plug in the other controller.

so i probably think there is a hardware issue with the one controller..

This discussion shows why options are preferable to suit the many different tastes, but they do require more effort in development. Thus the invitation to help creating the features requested.

As a long-time Linux user who uses GUIs as naturally as the command line, I understand both sides. A pretty design doesn't contradict functionality per se, but in reality it tends to reduce the available options, since they have to fit into the design. And prettiness lies in the eye of the beholder anyhow.

I often compare software design to cars: everyday controls are best placed on the dashboard, the rest goes under the hood. There will always be exceptions that depend on personal preferences rather than functionality, but even among car enthusiasts only a select few care about the visual design of the engine compartment. :) But I think we shouldn't shun the ones who do.

I think that they modified something in Advmame as it was working prior to one of the updates with 3.x then just nothing and still worked with 1.4 with Alsa.

SOLVED: In Retroach, internal resolution must be 336 x 240 !

@bigbugz420 Enable verbose logging in Runcommand (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#configuring-runcommand) and then get the log file from /dev/shm/runcommand.log after launching a ROM and not being able to control it with the controller.
Paste the file's contents at pastebin.com and then show us the link.
You still didn't say how are you connecting the controllers - is it bluetooth or USB ?

@madmodder123 no. Rpi update isn't really recommended unless you know what you're doing/have a specific use case as it can cause bugs. If one wants to start with stretch they'll need to flash the latest beta then just update from the setup script/ normal raspbian packages

The closest thing is setting all_users_control_menu = "true". However, this would obviously mean that all users would be able to control the menu and not just player three. However, you could unbind the controller mappings for all RetroArch functions and map them solely as keyboard keys. Then players one and two wouldn't have access from the controllers, but anyone using a keyboard would.

I had the same error once on a fresh install with one of the carbon theme files. Like I said it was a fresh install and i never touched the file. I ignored it and i believe it was mentioned by someone else here. Deleting and reinstalling carbon fixed it. But yeah i think sometimes git has this issue.

Hi every one , having same issue where i need to strech out the games , change the aspect ration for mame for the games so that the games can fit the screen i tried that git hub wiki you guys have posted but i did not see anying in there that teaches you how to get to that same aspect ratio menue using cmd or putty cmd can anyone please help . my retro pi has no access to that menu , only thru cmd but iam still learning , thank you .

Note that you'll be needing a 'registered' (i.e. full) version of Quake (1) to play it, the demo won't cut it.

You just need a theme that supports custom collections, and create these yourself.
It's just impossible to do that automatically across systems: in arcade it would theorically be possible since there are standard names, but not for the other systems. You can name your Donkey Kong NES rom "Young Mario vs Big Gorilla" if you want, how can the system know it's Donkey Kong ?

I had the same problem, but with my controls being turned 90° in th setup screens. Seems like those screens don't care about ES' controller configuration, but that can be easily fixed by connecting the joystick's microswitches in the "right" order on the encoder – if you're not using its single Sanwa port, that is.
