OK so should anyone encounter the same:
Changing from opengl to sdl2 did resolve that last issue.
A Pentium G3258 at 3.2 Ghz has some speed issues, but it works fine with 4.6 and up.
Skylake or newer Processors should do with less frequency.

I can survive the rest of the "stretch days" with the vice X64 emulator.. Anyways thanks for all the great work you've done with RetroPie. It is much appreciated :-)

By the way, MAME 2003-Plus has four different button layout presets for gamepads and arcade sticks. See Default RetroPad Layouts in the Libretro wiki for MAME 2003-Plus. They should cover most games' button layouts.

So it seems to be fixed with the binary install.

Perhaps you had a bad internet connection while updating the packages for installing the source.

Did you have a crash while updating ?

Try to update/upgrade your pi with apt.
If all goes well you can try to install the source again.

Based on a few YouTube videos, it appears 8bitdo controllers do work with iOS when adding the controller using the accessibility settings.
However, I’m not sure if that method has downsides over the regular Bluetooth device recognition.

In case it helps someone else, here’s a review of the 8bitdo working with iOS. The video creator explains how to add the controller with the accessibility method.

At the risk of you guys either laughing or scoffing at me a bit, the issue I was having is gone. I had the system freeze problem for about a month before I finally called for help on the forum, and it literally stopped happening basically as of yesterday. I will definitely look at the system log should it happen again.

To retain the bezel configuration and the ability to run with verbose logging I have moved the bezel configuration into a game .zip.cfg file.

Thanks guys - I managed to create another SD card image and used an SD reader to access the faulty one so at least I've rescued all my content!

@dankcushions well thanks you for assisting me with this one. I eventually got it working by using the USA Rom and, as you suggested, stretching the image to 5:4. it fills the whole screen and looks good. I'll be happy with that solution for now. Happy Holidays.

Can you enter the RetroArch menü? (normally via Hotkey + X) Then it might be this problem with the Multitap settings.

If not, we'll need the information markyh44 asked about.

P.S.: I guess you're German, right? Then just a friendly advice: You can't translate "spinnen" (acting crazy) with "spinning" (drehen). It makes your sentence above sound a little weird. 😉
