    @Ronoh55
FYI - think your issue with this one would be wrong quote signs used. eg:

    custom_viewport_width = “960” custom_viewport_height = "720”

note the different types of quote signs you’ve used around the numbers. only the vertical ones are right - " - not the slanted type. in fact, i’m not sure you need quotes around things like the aspect ratio index, but check an existing config to be sure.

You could also look into the new(ish) run ahead feature. It helps to eliminate input lag and from what I understand works very well on early system emulators. https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/17438/new-emulation-method-to-eliminate-input-lag

@WDW plug in a working controller and press start then exit emulationstation(takes you to command line).
    type: sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh (setup menu)
then go to config, then find bluetooth. (while youre here check 8bitdo hack is off). Next forget devices and reconnect one gamepad.
    If it stays connected then:
run: jstest /dev/input/js0 (checks input of first controller device- press buttons)
If the previous works then you might have a problem with emulationstation or something thus i dont know how to fix.

If not then try the following:

    sudo hciconfig hci0 reset

    (resets bluetooth adapter)

    sudo invoke-rc.d bluetooth restart

    (then restart it)

    sudo bluetoothctl

    (open bluetooth commandline)

    scan on

    ( start scanning)

    output looks like this:

    [CHG] Controller xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Discovering: yes [NEW] Device xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx LAPTOP-4BNKAVN8 [NEW] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 8BitDo N30 Pro 2 [bluetooth]# pair E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72

    (pair your mac address)
    will output like this

Attempting to pair with E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 Connected: yes [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 Modalias: usb:v2DC8p2865d0100 [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 UUIDs: 00001124-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 UUIDs: 00001200-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 ServicesResolved: yes [CHG] Device E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72 Paired: yes Pairing successful

    (then trust it)

    trust E4:17:D8:A2:0C:72

    (then connect it)

    connect xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

NOTE- change the address to yours.

@mitu i read it but was unsure as i really dont want to scrape each emulator seperately as per ( Skyscraper -p snes -s screenscraper) suggests. also i was wondering if that same thing could be done from the graphical interface. If not what command syntax would i use to scrape all roms/emulators?

Originally i think i used the built in scraper from emulationstation and it scraped almost all of them but this time it did barely any.

@johny8 How did you determine that ? You claim is rather ridiculous. 'Sabotage' ?

@meleu No, I think it's still needed :). In this case, the modification in RetroArch (gamepad order is the same as connection order) helps, but it's not helping people with gamepads that are always connected or the ones that have cabinets and wish to plug in a controller and have it as P1.

@Dustin_3487 said in Game freezing issue.:

All I see is raspberry pi being sold at multiple websites, a lot of them with games pre installed so I figured they were allowed to do it.

That doesn't mean it's legal. You should just ask for a refund.

@mitu I see. I understand. Thank you for the help. I will see if i can find an alternative to NESPi case. Well, the biggest reason i got it was because of the Safe Shutdown script. Pressing a button to turn off the console is neat, so i can prevent any corruptions to the SD Card.

@mitu But isnt the shortcut meant to be Hotkey + X, not just select/start on its own. I'm almost certain my map is correct. Its almost like Retroarch thinks my Xbox controller is something different.

@mitu my apologies, im not sure of the rules here, one topic was different(relating to multiple controllers). Im just frustrated as there is clearly meant to be an option for this and i cannot seem to find any answers anywhere.

@mitu got it, thanks! I think for changing emulation station this is a little too intimidating for me to try on the bartop since I have it fully working now without issues - a bit worried something will go wrong and my controls will get all jacked up between all the switches since as you note re-doing the emulation station input config with my ideal setup would regenerate the retropads and even though in theory re-doing it the second time would “reset” the controls I am worried something would glitch. Part of it is I count myself lucky I got all the XinMo stuff working on all emulators pretty easily what with all the posts I read in advance about people’s arcade controls not working for this or that.

But maybe I will at least remap the exit emulator hotkey since it seems I will be able to do that relatively easy across retroarch, reicast and mupen64plus and maybe get save/load working that way as well for retroarch and mupen . Seems a “low tech” solution for my start button to start a game dilemma would be just to create a label on the control panel for the button I have mapped to “a” that says “choose game.”

In time I may use my console-based retropie to try out the emulation station remapping but maybe I will also bide my time and someone will create an easy GUI for custom mapping emulation station menu functions only. Seems from some videos attract mode might have something like that so maybe someday! You guys are always improving this thing!

    Thanks again for your time.

Ok so I think I may have solved my issue which maybe a silly error on my behalf or something has still changed in later versions of retropie because I don't think I've ever had to change controller types.
But even though I've solved one problem it appears to have created an new problem.
Firstly I'll start with saying with default settings I usually have just turned on game specific options, started game, enabled multitap 1 in retroarch and all has worked. But it hasn't this time that's why I've had problems.
But what I have just done is changed player 1-4 controller type from default to standard and micro machines v3 has just worked with all 4 controllers.
I've then launched hogs of war and that has worked making sure controller type is analog.

So firstly i would like to know why player 1 and 2 controller would work with them all being on default but controllers 3 and 4 wouldn't.

    Now onto my new problem.
When setting multitap and controller type in options and saving game specific options, a yellow notification pops up saying core options saved.
And it appears to be saving it across all games as a core option rather the game specific option.
I have double checked and game specific options are set to true.

Thank you all for your help I'm almost there :)

Can you add more info about your system, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ? What type of controller are you using ? You might want to switch to Emulationstation as frontend and configure it, since this will also generate a gamepad auto-configuration for RetroArch.

@sarahoveryou Re-map you controller (1 would be enough, 2nd one would get the same configuration since it's similar) and skip the Hotkey selection (long press A to skip it). You'll be asked if you want to use Select as Hotkey and here choose Yes. Re-try to see if you can now use Select + Start to exit games.
What game are you trying and it's not starting with the Start button ?

@moltke44 You can try any command you see fit, but the package will not work under Jessie - even if you get it installed.
As for the update to Stretch, the recommended method is to use a new image from scratch and transfer your configs/roms/etc. to the new image. It's possible - technically - to upgrade in place, but as you already found, it's not always optimal and you can end up re-imaging anyway.
Remember to backup your image before attempting the upgrade - with any method you choose.
