set you controllers up again (only one) in emulation station make at the end you set your hot key to your select button dont skip it. Also unplug your joypad as its select button is probably different from what your have on your dragonrise and thats whats probably set atm

If that fails we can check what is in your config to see whats going wrong.

@MBRetrocade said in HELP! Can’t alter MAME2016 controls:

Hello everyone, so all of the sudden I am getting —- in the control input slots in MAME2016 and MAME2003. These are also uneditable. I would really like to get some game controls configured, so any help would be extremely appreciated! Thank you

This is on Retroarch 1.8.5, and I did not see any error messages. I am just unable to change any of my controls suddenly. I also tried re-installing (assuming that I did something) from binary and it did not help. I did not update the system during this.

    Here are my
    Details:
    Raspberry Pi 4B w/4GB ram, 64bit processor
Power Supply used: MODEL DCAR-RSP-3A5C, INPUT 100-240V AC, OUTPUT: 5.1V 3.5A
RetroPie version: Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) - Linux retropie 4.19.97-v7l+
    Built From: RetroPie-Setup version: 4.6.1 (4464b474)
USB Devices connected: SNES controller, USB keyboard
Controller used: SNES controller, USB keyboard

Please note: I did switch to a PS2 USB controller during the process of going through my arcade games & configuring the emulators. It did let me change the controls at first and I did not update anything so I cannot understand why I am suddenly getting three dashes in the input slots - - -

Also note: Mame2003 works up I cannot go up down left or right.

SOLVED, a MAME 2016.rmp file was generated in
configs/arcade/mame2016 and over wrote my controls. I deleted the .rmp file and now I have my controls working again.

    @mitu
    Ah thank you!
    Sorry about all the confusion

The answer was simple, and found in your documents.
    https://retropie.org.uk/docs/PC-Engine/

    *PC Engine CD

It is important that the image file (usually .bin) and the CUE file (.cue) match.

CUE files are just text files containing a description of the CD. If you have files named like:

    Akumajou Dracula X.bin
    Akumajou Dracula X.cue

then ensure the first line of the CUE file contains:

    FILE "Akumajou Dracula X.bin" BINARY

Any of the following are wrong and will not work:

    extension has incorrect case

    FILE "Akumajou Dracula X.BIN" BINARY

    file name has incorrect case

    FILE "AKUMAJOU DRACULA X.bin" BINARY

does not match the actual file name

    FILE "Akumajou_Dracula_X_-Chi_no_Rinne(NTSC-J)_[KMCD3005].bin" BINARY*

It did work :) I was away from the pi so I wanted to ask clarification before doing it.

Was not because of lack of thrust; I simply like to know what am I doing and what happens when I do something :) Thanks!

I don't think Windows knows how to open the .img (7-Zip does, if you have it installed). Try writing the image using Etcher or the Raspberry Pi imager, but without un-zipping it.

@rkuzyk hello, I think I can be of help... what program did you use to initially extract your RetroPie download? If you used winRAR, try again with winZIP instead.

    WOW !!! Thanks a lot @mitu !! ;-)

This KROM X-Box usb gamepad is new, and I didn't know what you meant with X-Input or D-Input.
So I read in the manual and understood.
The problem was because when we just connect the gamepad on the RaspBerry Pi 4 (RetroPie) by default it always starts in X-input mode (PC X-Box) and to change to Direct-input mode we just have to press and hold the home button for about 5 seconds.
Then RetroPie recognized the control normally and it was possible to configure it.

    Thank you so much!!!

That being said, you should try one of the other MAME emulators - Mame2003 has mouse support and RetroArch seems to detect your mouse. As a plus, it supports absolute pointing devices.

And here is a hint for the controller, the controller 8bitdo SN30 Pro G Classic Gamepad must be connected to Xinput via Bluetooth or it won't work:

    Mode:
Hold Y+START button POWER ON as SWITCH PRO mode.
Hold A+START button POWER ON as MAC mode.
Hold B+START button POWER ON as Android mode.
Hold X+START button POWER ON as Xinput mode.

    A. LED 1 blinking: D-input mode
    B. LED 2 blinking: X-input mode (Xbox 360 mode)
    C. LED 3 blinking: macOS mode
    D. LED Rotating: Switch mode or pairing mode

@cbr_greg Please re-install from the Pi4 image provided in retropie.org.uk/download. If you want to use the desktop, then you can install it as indicated in the Docs.
Before attempting to overclock, just run the games you're interested in and see if you really need to overclock.

@BuZz - Ah, thanks a bunch, that makes perfect sense. I usually use Chrome and when I open my browser I go to the history and reopen several tabs at once. RetroPie is one of the main sites I visit and I usually have multiple topics open for reading and reference. I'll be sure to keep it down to a few tabs.

    Thanks a lot.

By the way. Is there any work around, I am thinking of for example being able to point out a specific (older) version of a binary to install?
I guess this could be good also in the case when several clients happen to run not the latest version of a Ported game (multiplayer), and then a new client installs the game but runs into compatibility issues when joining the multiplayer game.
