@TMNTturtlguy also if you google search for playchoice 10 glass you probably can find it. The playchoice 10 arcades didnt have bezel art on the glass

@dankcushions I can certainly recommend the kit, I was looking for something that I did not need to paint, the formica certainly gives a good finish.

There is a slight rough edge where the control panel meets the screen. The design has an angled cut here and the formica chips out slightly.

I will try and find a plastic trim piece for it. It is not a major complaint. I am not sure if the other similar kits have the same problem

This was the cheapest formica faced kit available. Riches bartops dropped their price after I had ordered, but his is still £30 more expensive when courier costs are taken into account.

@Jste84 I wouldn't recommend it seeing as they are selling retropie which is in breach of many of the emulator licences

I didn't think it was clear they were selling retropie??? They are definitely using it.. but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they weren't include the image.

I'd never condone someone selling retropie. I didn't really understand the need for the topic when the website is clearly listed... I also of course would add that anyone who buys a pre-made image is missing out on the fun of this whole thing

I'm an engineer too :) I couldn't resist the urge to build it myself, but of course it helps if you're familiar with woordworks.

If I should have changed one thing, I would have routed out some of the wood from the inside of the boards, e.g. in hexagon shapes to save weight but still keep some stiffness - this arcade weighs quite a bit :)

Wiring is not that complex with a RPi, mostly consisting of signal wires and ground wires from the iPac to the buttons. The illuminated ones need a few more but that's it. Keeping wires tidy helps the overview, but there's countless videos on YouTube - check them out.

My screen size is a 16" 5:4 and I think it's a pretty good size, and since many games run 4:3 there's only black borders in vertical arcade games. Just look at getting one that's as fast as possible (less input lag/response time), maybe a modern one with a gaming mode.

@sadkiwi Just some tips, if your question involves something that isn't working, explain it as accuratly as you can, and explain how it is connected/related to the pi. Also sometimes add the code you are using for some projects.

@Capeman ... with DVI is the thing... I have a 5:4 at home, got for free and only 15" but works fine. 1 VGA port only. :(

But 4:3 I was referring to TV's... figured get a TV with speakers and HDMI and save some time, wires and money but, old pre-widesreen TV's seem to be all pre-HDMI. See a rare one pop up but, oddly high in price or such a no-name brand I don't want to bother.

I think I'll be going 5:4 computer monitor with DVI and buying a cheap/short cable. I'll probably go on local ad pages... I'm in Canada so, lot's of those sites that have great deals, I can't take advantage of because of ship/duty. :( Shame too because you're right, some good looking 4:3's there.... at least I can use the site to quickly find model numbers for searching. I have a Dell as my PC monitor at home, quality is great.

@demost Have you looked into @Floob and his Attract Mode Retropie image?

Obvs has no bundled rooms, but has Attract Mode as its main front-end rather than ES?

That should give you a more Hyperspin feel, no?

If cost doesn't matter to you, you can pickup a super small 'desktop' computer for a couple hundred bucks and it'll literally be like 10 times faster than the Raspberry Pi 3 (mainly because it'll have a fully-functioning video card doing most of the graphics overhead). If you're a fan of the latter MAME 3d games this is a must. If you're just playing classics from the 70's into the 80's then a Pi would be just fine.

@meleu you can adjust the codes that get sent - means customising the scripts though.

      eg. line 116 of runcommand.sh

      from

      "$ROOTDIR/supplementary/runcommand/joy2key.py" "$JOY2KEY_DEV" kcub1 kcuf1 kcuu1 kcud1 0x0a 0x09 &

      to

      "$ROOTDIR/supplementary/runcommand/joy2key.py" "$JOY2KEY_DEV" kcub1 kcuf1 kcuu1 kcud1 0x0a 0x09 0x0a 0x0a 0x0a &

would assign 0x0a (enter) to buttons 2, 3 and 4 in addition to the existing mapping.

Ok, managed to get all my controls on the correct sides, only issue I have now is I cannot have start and select working on both player 1 and 2. This also causes me not to be able to exit a game back to the main menu by pressing start and select. Any ideas ?
