I think I found the problem: something was wrong with my BIOS. I deleted the current BIOS-file and put in a new one - and now it works.

But thanks for your effort, @mitu

@edmaul69 I have done that to. It is not a problem with the controllers.

Well yes this did get the BB-GAME controller working in emulation station. And non-retroarch emulators. Unfortunately, Retroach hates this controller for some reason.

I don't have a keyboard! I borrowed one from a friend so that I could enable ssh. I always log in from my laptop. Probably I should buy a cheap one for the raspberry, I know.

Facing the same issue with "select" not working. Don't know what "drastic" is, so cannot comment on this.

There seems to be a "fix", but I am not sure whether this is part of 4.3 yet? Anyone has a more recent image and can try? Are their nightly or weekly builds for Retropie?

@darkside1305 did you ever solve this issue? I've tried everything listed elsewhere to no resolve. I keep getting the KB unknown key for many of the buttons I want to map. Using a bluetooth xbox one S controller. In the drastic.cfg file I notice that anything listed as KB unknown key is changed to a zero. If I knew how the emulator worked with retroarch I might be able to figure out the numbers but they do not match up with the normal 1-14 buttons retroarch uses.

Phiuuu.... I had the same problem @CeZza_Gant .

First i updated BlueZ to version 5.37 from this link

      https://learn.adafruit.com/install-bluez-on-the-raspberry-pi/installation

There's a newer version (5.47 or something) but when i installed that one it didn't work.

Anyway... after following the instuctions for 5.37 suddenly it worked. Not sure what happened but it worked.

Turn On my Adafruit Feather 32u4 Bluefruit LE I entered to configuration ->bluetooth->Register and connect Retropie detects my BLE device and then connects Something happens there, the UI freezes so i have another keyboard connected to my RPi, Ctrl+C to go back to Emulation Station And that's it. The feather's blue LED is turned on and connected to the RPi You go to configure input and the feather is detected as a keyboard.

It all was a trial and error, so, if my instructions doesn;t work, keep trying.

      Regards from Mexico!

@mitu I've already reinstalled retropie like 4 times and I swear, every time I touch the controls and attempt to enable the analog stick on FF7, the controls just break forever. Even if I don't save anything. It's so incredibly weird.

I've reinstalled for the fourth time and it's working (without analog) on FF7, so I'm just going to not even touch the settings. I really don't want to redo my RetroPie image anymore.

I'm just honestly baffled I'm the only person that's ever had this problem with FF7 on RetroPie.

Well, found the answer there : https://pineight.com/mw/index.php?title=USB_game_controller

Under the "DragonRise Inc. Generic USB Joystick" device : "A "mode" button at the bottom center of the face switches between two modes, signaled by green and red LEDs next to the button. Green appears to be designed for games expecting only digital controls, while red makes all analog controls available."

There is the same type of mode button on my controller named "ANALOG". When in analog mode, all is working correctly. jstest output is normal.
Should've thought about it sooner !

      Hope it helps !

@rbaker said in 2 player start button?:

What is in your retroarch.cfg file regarding player two controls? Did you add them?

Please answer this ^^^^^^^^^^ the file is located at /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

do you see entires that reference player two?

      input_player2_a = "x" input_player2_b = "z" input_player2_y = "a" input_player2_x = "s" input_player2_start = "enter" input_player2_select = "rshift" input_player2_l = "q" input_player2_r = "w" input_player2_left = "left" input_player2_right = "right" input_player2_up = "up" input_player2_down = "down"

Have you read this with regard to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads

nor does it offer a solution

It offered possible explanation......."Reading around the inter webs, it seems that that brand of joystick has general issues in Linux of all flavors. It may be that there is no good solution other than getting a tried and tested controller that is known to work well"

@jonceramic said in Disconnected bluetooth controller causes freezes on regular intervals:

I'm assuming possible that the controller needs to be on when the system is booted under this setup so it can be discovered immediately

That's not necessary, if the pairing is ok, you can turn your controller on/off anytime. You didn't give any details about your system/controller, so it's hard to say if it's the same problem or not.
FWIW I have a 8bitdo SN30 controller that doesn't have any problems. It was updated to the latest firmware version available and I didn't have to fiddle with any bluetooth settings on the PI, it even goes into stand-by then reconnects back on a button press.
