For emulators, anything with the old school standard button layout of of d-pad, a, b, start, and select. The screen is tiny but Gameboy and Gameboy color are perfect. NES is pretty good although text is pretty much unreadable unless you're very familiar with the game. I've been using only NES games which I'm familiar with. The battery lasts about an hour and with the power boost I can charge and play at the same time.

My bad, I worded my issue incorrectly.
I am having issues getting the palette to load at all.
If I could get it to load, I know I can save the configuration for the specific ROM.

Yes it is. They both even share many, if not all, of the same filters. However, in a few cases, the filters have different names.

Nestopia is said to be more accurate and less problems with sound production

Neither core will run every game, so you'll probably want both if you're looking for maximum coverage. lr-nestopia does seem to handle some of the more finicky unlicensed titles, like 'Action 52' that lr-fceumm won't even launch.

My main question is, what should I set them to if I want a similiar experience like my old PAL tv?

For what it's worth, while adding this week's MAME ROW games to my system I updated to 4.3.15 (07d9f95) and it didn't resolve the issue. I'm hoping either reverting to a really old version of RetroPie and then just not doing any updates, ever, or updating to the new Stretch version will resolve the problem. I haven't made the time yet to disassemble everything and put a different card in to try that route.

It's possible and is done all the time, but it takes a lot of work. If you're interested, I found this tutorial that claims to be for beginners. That site in general, romhacking.net, is one you'll want to explore further if you do decide to move forward. It has many tools available to aid in ROM hacking and the community is very active and helpful.

Hope it helps someone! I tried to get the mouse to work as a Zapper. It just wouldn't work. End of the story: I had to unplug the USB-dongle of my remote control, because it had a mouse functionality. I think it had a conflict with my wireless USB mouse. Afterwards I changed mouse index to 0 in lr-fsceumm under Controller 2 Input and changed the type to Zapper. That's it!

Cool stuff, will definitely download them.

Note that the developer is talking about a Kickstarter project for their new game where a low tier reward will be the ROM of the new game...

@nathiel in the RetroPie Setup click on the tools option and select the EmulationStation line. The first option in the next menu is clear controller configs. After reboot you will be prompted to configure your controllers again. Unless you have a very specific custom config setup this will be the easiest way to start fresh.

@thadoctor72 yeah most controllers that only have a dpad have an axis. No biggie there. The controller is probably just an absolute piece of junk.

@thedatacereal If you're looking to create per-core configurations, the easiest is to do them in the RetroArch gui, then save them with Save Core Overrides. They'll be saved into the .config folder and they'll contain only the changed configuration options, much easier to read and maintain.
