      Hello,

Yes, as long as it is powered off the raspberry pi is ready to boot one 'image' or another on any drive.

The ability to boot from usb is possible and it takes some additional programming outlined here. If the usb mode is programmed the ability to boot from a SD card or a USB is granted. Additionally the ability to boot from SD card will be unchanged. Lastly the boot order while powering on will detect a installation on a SD card before a USB.

'Noobs' installation is an easy way to manage start up and it is possible to have multiple operating systems on one disk. Retropie is built on the raspbian distribution which is based on debian linux. Many of the things learned can be applied interchangeably.

Learn a lot, and you're welcome.

The PR was merged, so it's safe to go back to the master branch if you were testing. Don't forget to updateruncommandafter returning to the master branch (which is done automatically when you use the Update RetroPie-Setup script option of the script itself).

Thanks to @mitu and everybody else who helped with troubleshooting & testing.

@psyke83 said in Error and GUI terminates back to ES when launching RetroPie-Setup direct on machine (libudev?) - but SSH is ok:

      @BuZz

It looks like we might need to add a delay to the runcommand invocation as well?

I implemented python-evdev support into the script: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/compare/master...psyke83:joy2key_evdev

Tested it on Ubuntu 18.10, confirmed it to work well and eliminate the need for any delays... and then realized afterwards that Raspbian doesn't have this package :/

It's possible to get on Raspbian via installing python-pip and then installing it that way, but python-pip requires 30MB or so of extra packages. A damn shame :(

how about the idea of re-implementing joy2key in C and use libevdev/libudev directly? the binary would be much smaller and elegant than having the python interpreter :)
joy2key doesn't seem to be too complex functionally speaking. In few weeks I will have much more time available and could help with this if interested.

Think I figured it out. Disabled the splash through Emulation Station. Didn't realize it was in there, thought it was changed in the config script for RetroPie. Now everything works.

@cyperghost Glad to hear but the Jazz Jackrabbit scriptmodule is not ready yet. Since i managed to find out how to create a scriptmodule it will be a lot quicker to get it done. :-)

I will very soon begin to create the scriptmodule for Jazz Jackrabbit, but first i will make a pull request and then release it on its own page for manual cloning from its github page.

PS. BTW, the Debian install links from opensuse.org appear to be broken on the .sh script as there is only a folder for Debian 9.0 now - Debian 8.0 isn't there anymore.

      hi @EriHoss and everyone.
to today someone could solve the problem of the audio HDMI??

i install @EriHoss retropie image, the emulation is very good, but I could not make the audio work.

I tried to use build_installer.sh script to build new kernel 4.19, but it does not work either (in a Ubuntu 18.04 VM with docker disable)

      Any advance?

@kombat Yes. I flashed to 1.39. You can still use it as a keyboard if desired, but the option to change the buttons to gamepad buttons is now available.

Emulationstation also sees my mini-ipac as two"Ultimarc Mini-Ipac"s now instead of "keyboard"

Somehow I wasn't able to get Samba to work from my Mac but using SFTP with Filezilla (free program) works like a charm. It's worth a try if the Samba shares don't work out. Good luck!

@Izzii0x Welcome to this forum. Some friendly words of advice:

Please give us all the information about your system that's asked for in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first In general, it is advisable to open a new thread about your problem rather than to "necro" (forum slang) a thread that began 2½ years ago, as your problem could be caused by completely different things than those discussed here earlier.

We don't - lots of hurdles to support multiple users. I don't want to add additional script parameters btw so no need to do a pr at this time. Thanks.

You can set vars with sudo __blah= ./retropie_packages.sh
