There is indeed a 32-bit pointer limitation with PBP, so any archive > ~2.1GB will fail to load any content after it (e.g. the last disc in FF8).

@pierouge in which Mode did you connect your 8biDo? Switch, Android, Mac or Win?
I just learned that this is an important point and after a change (Android. Start+B) my Pads work perfect.

Yup, I just tried deleting all bluetooth controllers and repairing them. Still does the same thing. I timed it and it take around 40 seconds longer to load a game with an 8bitdo controller connected than otherwise. As I mentioned in my original post, it doesn't give me this problem when using any other controllers, include the bluetooth Wii U Pro controller.

The Adafruit site has a troubleshooting guide, the white screen issue is addressed there.

    Here is my emulators.cfg file

    lr-beetle-pce-fast = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-beetle-pce-fast/mednafen_pce_fast_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/retroarch.cfg %ROM%" default = "lr-beetle-pce-fast" lr-beetle-supergrafx = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-beetle-supergrafx/mednafen_supergrafx_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/retroarch.cfg %ROM%" lr-fbalpha-pce = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbalpha/fbalpha_libretro.so --subsystem pce --config /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/retroarch.cfg %ROM%" lr-fbalpha-sgx = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbalpha/fbalpha_libretro.so --subsystem sgx --config /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/retroarch.cfg %ROM%" lr-fbalpha-tg = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fbalpha/fbalpha_libretro.so --subsystem tg --config /opt/retropie/configs/pcengine/retroarch.cfg %ROM%"

You should probably trim it down, since you don't have installed all the emulators there.

So I started a new game, saved at the first point, exited, then renamed the srm to srm.bak for safekeeping, then uploaded and renamed the srm I wanted and it worked.

Any ideas why this is an issue? I'm not really complaining, I'm more intrigued at this point. It almost seems as if the emulator keeps track of whether or not a save should exist. That seems counterintuitive considering the concept of removeable memory cards on the console itself and I would assume an emulator would not need to care if a game had ever been started. Is it similar to modern consoles where it tracks and creates an internal memory file of the game existing and has save files separate?

@buzz Which 8bitdo controllers do you use? Are these your primary? I bought and set up a pair of SN30s in January(they seem to be a discontinued version now, maybe for good reason?) for someone and they seemed to be fine for sidescrollers but were finnicky when charging. I want some low profile wireless controllers for travel to replace my ibuffalos but was curious if the Pro line is halfway decent for analog based games like N64 or PSX.

@kane72 Ok I have tried that, switched to 4.3 and then attempt to launch and the Pi completely disconnects form the TV at that moment. I dunno. I'm ready to give up on this. I have made two posts and a great amount of time researching the internet for solutions with little responses either informing me that most people either just don't know or don't want to del with me on this. It is evident that some things are simple and self explanatory and other issues are much more complex and probably require an advanced knowledge of tech. I'm not sure if I would give my kids one of these things but on the flipside I have enjoyed learning the other aspects of the Pi. I will probably end up starting with a fresh copy of Retropie as all this screwing around has either erased files I have uploaded or change settings that I do not know how to fix. I do really appreciate your response .
