    @ExarKunIv
To my knowledge, there isn’t any way to make the runcommand window appear behind either the PNG or video.

@deadherring said in Player 2 Left:

@mitu When I exit emulation station and press player 2 left, nothing shows. When I press other keys (e.g. player 2 right) I am seeing the corresponding key show in the window.

This means the d-pad/joystick is not registering in the OS, so it's not a configuration issue - but a hardware one, the button is not registering as d (maybe it's registering as Shift/Ctrl/Alt ?). Make sure it's correctly wired - what controller are you using ?

EDIT: Try running evtest from the command line - after you exit Emulationstation - and press the P2 Left to see if anything registers (key/modifier/F key).

@skoufix Thanks, the fixes above did not work for me but yours did. I'm glad to finally get rid of the startup glitch.

I suggest it can be the timer that leads to such behaviour. After 3s of waiting if the PID is active then a kill term 9 is send to process. That leads to a process abort. You can try to extend the time by changing the sleep command or by changing the number counter. I get some obscure errors if a process was terminated with siglevel 9.

No I don't think it has something to do with the script. Sounds like problem with data access from KODI.

Suddenly is a kind of magic, too.

You wrote you use a pendrive, which can lead to problem 2 - writing cache for KODI. KODI responds sometimes slow on pendrives esp. with ntfs format

    Unrelated to script.

All in all I think you might get some problems with the powering and the pendrive. To be sure I would extent the sleep timer from 0.1 to 0.25 be aware that a not closing process needs now 30x0.25s time ~ 8s to be forced closed now.

Maybe you can give feedback to this later ;)

@Efriim retropie-setup dialogs can't be closed. As long as the call was initiated by runcommand shell script then every script or binary can be closed. If the runcommand call is missing then there is no pathway for the close switch.

I tried both values for the usescancodes and both failed.

However, i was able to finally make it work by setting the Keyboard type to us instead of auto.

I dont know why this would break based on if it is run from inside ES vs command line. My locale is set right.

    Okay, so a bug.
I would never have thought of it by myself.

    Thank you very much.

That is unfortunate, maybe there is something on warranty, I think the Pi's have been successful they may be agreeable if you tell them. 5V 2A isn't far out of the level guidelines if this is what caused it, while it says nowhere to use a phonecharger, there are HP chargers and others replacements that are often used.

AWESOME!!! Just testing it out, when I went into RetroPi configure controller it recognized it as 2 gamepads right away, configured each and was instantly playing some Street Fighter Alpha 3 with my 5 year old. I works great! Thanks for the help, should have notice my mistake, the devil is in the details as they say. I read so much I have developed a tendency to be lays and just speed read without even realizing I'm doing it. I my brain just saw 'add to it's own line' for some reason. Anyways the device should be included by default and hopefully this will be fixed in a new version so folks don't have mess with it manually. Guess my wiring job was spot on, I don't have any issues now. Thanks again.

@Ohris what usb encoders are you using? because depending on what port you plug in controllers, decides the player number

Port 0 has has highest priority for player 1

You can connect a second display only over the GPIO - something similar to this setup should get your 2 independent displays - one for normal gaming via HDMI and a 2nd one over the connected over SPI (GPIO pins).
The 2nd display can be used for showing the images (via fbi) or even videos (via omxplayer).

    Okay, I know that now.
It seems like it would tell you something different than ask for user if the repository was missing or deleted.

@saccublenda Ive found switching between discs was an issue when select-x to retroarch menu When using bin. and .cue roms. Try using just .iso roms for mutli disk games like night trap and ground zero texas. Worked for me

Does anyone know if there is there any resolution to getting ALL of the buttons on this controller to work in ES? I'm disappointed that all of the buttons cannot be used. Originally I was attempting the macOS pairing and nothing would work (I read somewhere this is the best setting for retroarch. Cannot cite my current source because I forgot).

After two weeks of trial and error, I'm happier after reading this thread that I can use the Windows setting, but I often use the trigger buttons for load and save states (the shoulders are for ff and rewind). So full functionality is reduced for me.

@Zore I don't see any errors in the log file. Can you also post the contents of ~/.emulationstation/es_input.cfg ? Check the permissions on that file also, if your user is able to write to it.

    Thank you for the reply.

My issue turned out to be very simple in the end. When programming the buttons as you mention, I actually just wasn't holding them down long enough for them to register. Ugh... Oh well ;-) Thank you again for the support. Learning as I go...
