for mame2003-plus on digital only turn analog off you only turn this on for analog controllers if your using them.

ie snes and joysticks use dpads (digital hat). analog off( this is the default mode)

you should do the following in settings
enable legacy mapping ( this is important when it needed for analog or games using analog controls even on a dpad)

in analog mode : directons are on axis 0 an axis 1 (lstick)

in analog mode off (dpad is used)

I got it working now. Problem is I don't know what I did differently so I can't explain it for the benefit of others. What I did was I reinstalled meleus joystick script and now it works. If I plug in the SUB pads while still in ES I can then use them as P1 and P2. If I unplug them the Controlblock controllers become 1 and 2. This is perfect. Thank you @mitu for your patience and for being so helpful all the time. In addition to this now being solved I also learned to SCP and SSH in the process so I solved a couple of other issues myself that I couldn't have before. Thank you.

Advmame 3 uses the same ROM set (0.106), advmame-0.94 uses an older one (0.94). See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/MAME/.

@mitu Got it. Thanks for the answer. I guess I wish it were a bit more flexible but I'll go with the hot key enabled then.

    @mitu Just did it.
Everything went smooth as we discussed it above.
From the SD's roms folder I only deleted the actual ROMs not the folders.

So far I didn't notice any performance hit nor any decrease. All the same as it seems. I'll let you know in case that impression should change.

One more thing about backup: Since the configs share is not being transferred to the USB stick (unfortunately) I want to stress the importance to (at least) backup this one manually and frequently ;-)

Resolved this, appears to be a compatibility issue with localisation and certain languages/keyboards not wanting to display "°". Reset keyboard settings to the default:

    # KEYBOARD CONFIGURATION FILE # Consult the keyboard(5) manual page. XKBMODEL="pc105" XKBLAYOUT="gb" XKBVARIANT="" XKBOPTIONS="" BACKSPACE="guess"

Also reset language to the default:

    LANG=en_GB.UTF-8

@meynti hi there. I briefly came across this problem but figured it out quite quickly.

This control pad has 4 different methods of how the controller will work.
    Nintendo switch
    Dinput
    Xinput
    Mac OS

Same as you. Mine was setup to switch mode. Works with the pie. But not steam link.

Dinput also doesn’t work with steam link.

    Xinput did work perfectly.

Haven’t tried Mac OS mode but would suspect it wouldn’t work.

    Here’s how to sort it.
Get a keyboard ready or another controller that is setup to work on your pie. . You’ll need it soon.

First of. Go to RetroPie Bluetooth settings. Remove your controller from the list.

Now. Turn off your controller. Hold start for 10 seconds.

Hold X and press start to turn the controller on. The X will turn it on in Xinput mode. Two lights should be flashing below the sticks.

Now add your controller again on the pie.

Once done you can quit the Bluetooth settings. You’ll need to go to the bit to configure inputs. If you have another controller that already works on the pie then the start button will bring up this menu you need. From here reconfigure your 8bitdo controller buttons.

Once you’ve done that the steam link will now see your controller. It will say it’s a Xbox one controller but it will work fine. It did for me.

    Hope this helps.

How did you delete the emulator ? Any emulator can be installed back by using the RetroPie-Setup script, which you can start from the RetroPie system in Emulationstation.
What emulator are you trying to re-install ?

Ok, I read other messages, and I'm currently compiling again, but this time I'm using the git URL with the version fixed by another user from this forum. I'll keep you informed. I'll do some tests and will report.

@Run-the-Jewels If you have the Pimoroni controller (X Hat) then you should do what I did, see above. Some additional information is on the Pimoroni forums, see https://forums.pimoroni.com/t/x-hat-retropie-coin-button-exits-game/9633.

If you have another controller, then this might not be the same problem. If this is the case, then I suggest you start a new thread, with detailed descriptions of your hardware, software versions, log file entries etc.

Can you be more specific ? Video in connections does the older TV support ? SCART/Composite/Component/VGA ?
The simplest solution is to get a composite video cable and use the analog output from the PI to connect to the TV.

@Eyeball_36 iirc there's a specific sensor of sorts that would enable the potential to have an onscreen battery type of thing but it wasn't part of the raspiboy hardware. It was one of the grievances I had with the hardware, until it just fried completely. Sorry I'm not much more help

If I were to do the handheld thing again I'd do the mintypi V3
