This tool MPKEdit does what you want. load the .N64 file then save it as a normal .MPK which can then be converted to Mupen's .srm format with whatever tool you have.

Edit: OK so you're trying to extract EEPROM saves from an MPK file, not trying to use an actual controller pak save. Open the .N64 in MPKEdit, then Hold Control (save icons for note should turn red) and click the save icon. then rename it as required, convert it to SRM as required, etc.

@askalangly deleting retroarch.cfgs and the back up isn't the right thing to do. we don't use retroarch defaults, which is what you'll end up using if you delete everything.

@bonden3000 a picture with the phone should suffice.

Are you using EmulationStation? If so, in a duplicate entry, can you open the edit metadata menu in both and see what their file paths are, and any significant differences?

Sharing one gamelist for a system with duplicates may help. Use pastebin or something like that.

@mr_fredricksen You will have to do some research on the interface requirements. The joystick is like buttons--the microswitches will have to lead to some kind of controller interface like an IPAC USB keyboard interface for example, or directly to GPIO, etc. This will largely depend on the other controls you hope to use. For example, is this a single player arcade system? 2-player control panel? 4? How many buttons? I don't really need to know those answers, but you need to plan for all of your inputs and decide how you are going to handle them. The optical part is trickier. The endgame will likely look like a USB mouse when connected to the Pi. You will need to research the rotary joystick you want to get and find out what your options are for a compatible rotary interface. Maybe there is a USB board for it? Maybe they expect you to connect it to a spinner interface. I would read everything I can find via Google on the subject, as people have been building emulator-based arcades for years before retropie, so there is a lot written on the topic of rotary joysticks.

You are asking the right questions though. You definitely need something between the controls and the Pi computer. Depending on how many controls, you might need multiple somethings. You cannot, for example, just plug a rotary joystick into the Pi somehow. You need a USB interface and possibly more than one. A lot depends on your design ideas. Check out Ultimarc for some ideas, or Groovy Game Gear, or follow examples others have used in years past when building systems with rotary.

@mitu I agree, absolutely, the best way is to just have .pbp files, and like it says in the es_systems.cfg they will be displayed automatically. But my eboot conversion just did NOT want to work on two or three of my games so they had both an .img and .cue and it annoyed me to no end so I just ended up hiding the .imgs per the above.

This seems to happen intermittently depending on whether I use the SAMBA share or SFTP using Filezilla. Files go missing when in Fiezilla, but appear to be there when I look through Windows Explorer. I just say it happen the other-way round. I deleted a bunch of files in Filezilla and then transferred new ones in. They show up in Filezilla but on through Samba.

@mitu Yeah, it doesn't really fit my setup, unfortunately. Not a bad idea if I run out of ideas, though. Appreciate it.

well, my pc is connected to the tv, and I can use the wireless keyboard from the "unresponsive" state to get to another console and login there on another console.

What other tools should I check?
