I have no idea how to add compilation flags and had hoped to avoid needing to use a fresh image of 4.4 (I know its not that big a chore or anything) but if that's the only option I'll just leave lr-vice off the pi for now. Just as a friendly general advice, you should have waited if your own thread yields any solution for you before necroing this ancient thread from a user who didn't post anything since June 2017.

That said, I wish you success with your problem.

@TomoS Emulationstation must be launched from the terminal, it's not going to work from an existing X.org/Desktop session. You'll also have to turn off/stop your login manager/display manager if you have one started.

@pie4mom We don't offer support for 3rd party images. Please start with the image from retropie.org.uk/download.

@pma7779 The configs folder is accessible through \\retropie\configs, just like the roms file share

@dankcushions I'm not using any shaders on any of the emulators. And what about the 117Hz instead of 120Hz, what's the deal with that?

@mitu I had the same issue! I also noticed somehow all the files inside the /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch directory was missing, so I forced the updated in the core packages configuration menu inside the Retropie Setup screen. (Manage packages -> core -> retroarch -> Update from binary)

I tried scraping for the ROMs you mentioned and I had no problems. For reference, here are the ROM names and their MD5 checksum:

@Gaprofitt Is RetroArch configured with alsa or alsathread as audio driver ? Enable verbose logging with the Runcommand options menu and check the /dev/shm/runcommand.log file to see what/where does RetroArch errors out.

@mitu solved my problem. In RA there's an option for the directory in which the replays are stored/saved. During game play (while recording), however, the audio and graphics go to hell and back. During replay it's fine, but does anyone have a way to prevent the distortion while recording?

Download and burn the SD image hosted on this site, and not only is it likely to work, but we will actually be able to support it!

I figured it...
Firstly configure the new machine withing AmiBerry and save the config as whatever you like - in my case to set up a compatible Amiga to run a game which the default configs do not run.

Next hop over to RetroPie Configuration Editor from the main menu and choose option 2 - Advanced Configuration.
Then option 4 - Manually edit non RetroArch configurations.
Scroll down to option 26 - amiga/emulators.cfg and copy any of the standard existing default "rp-xxx" lines and replace with your own new filename from AmiBerry which you just saved.

When you next boot press a key to enter runcommand as the info window for runcommand pops up during the booting of the game.
Change the option no 2 - Select default emulator for ROM and select the emulator you saved.
Press x to launch.
That's it. From now on your game will load with the emulator you configured to work with the game and is launch able from ES directly.

Hope this helps to make someone elses' life a bit easier.

How did you update without a network connection?

RetroPie does controls per controller/encoder name, so if two controllers share the same same name, if you change one, you change the other. If you have 2 different controllers using the dragon rise encoder, but they are different, it may be that one is wired up differently than the other.

Metadata (which includes number of players) is stored in the gamelist.xml file that is situated in /.emulationstation/gamelists/SYSTEM/ - there will be a separate gamelist.xml for each system.

While you could generate a gamelist.xml file manually the preferred method would be to use a scraper (https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/scraper) there are both the in built one and many others.
