      I think I worked it out. A year or so ago when I originally set up my retropie I was focussing on PSX emulation, and in the "autoconfig" controller mappings I must have force mapped this:

      input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1" input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0"

      Removing these seems to have done the trick

      @SpudsMcToole That's a pity. I've only got 4 games setup at present so haven't encountered that problem (albeit for some reason Elite simply won't work when I chain load it - I'll need to check whether it works with the run command instead).

      You can customize your key/button bindings as you like - globally, per-system or per-game. Look into the RetroArch controller configuration docs.

      @max209 said in ES recognizes controlls but games with retroarch won't:

      But sometimes when i install a different image, like retropie for the odroid XU4 or a modded image for the Pi 3 (not every), the controls are being recognized in ES and i can appoint them in retroarch (main menu retropie) but within games they wont work at all.

      I'm afraid we don't support these custom images. the only ones we support are these: https://retropie.org.uk/download/

      You can also set how much time this will be displayed before launching the game. What would be a nice option is if you could set it to stay onscreen until a button is pushed. I don't think this is available today.

      John

      pressing q or escape on the keyboard will close the image and launch the game, then you can set image_delay to a high number of seconds. the only thing left to do would be map one of those 2 keys to your controller, but i'm unsure if this would require any changes to the scripts in ~/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary/runcommand/

      I remapped the controls of almost every core because of my joystick layout. I'm gonna buy a new controller with a different controller and default mappings are more fitting.

      I need to have the cores just like if I never remapped their controls

      @tr3v0r when you set up a 6 button layout it is supposed to be set up as

      LXR
      YBA

      yes there is massive confusion at the moment with 6 and 8 buttons.

      the Megadrive/Genesis (6 Button) layout you where using is probably for the megadrive emulator its no good in other cores. Keep in mind to remap your genesis core if your using this as a global

      To anyone else who might come across this. I was able to fix this by updating the emulator from source. This added core options for different controller layouts and an adjustable analog deadzone.

      I can see a new entry on my TV saying "RetroPie ES", but the remote doesn't work OOTB neither is possible to configure it via "Configure Input". In either the pré-compiled one and the custom one. This is just to confirm if it is working or not, it can be my TV, although CEC works fine in other programs.

      @mattyl42 you may have accidently changed one of your start and select buttons (or hot key) and saved it fudged up.

      Try reconfiguring the controler in Emulation station like when you first load it up. Vids on you tube. Done all this myself too :)

      @RickyTan I don't have the game Grand Prix Master myself, but from reading it should work with Kempston by default?

      For Anteater, the remake released in 2021, it's a simple QAOP control set, with Space for start and fire. This is my anteater.opt file:

      fuse_auto_load = "enabled" fuse_ay_stereo_separation = "none" fuse_fast_load = "enabled" fuse_hide_border = "enabled" fuse_joypad_a = "Space" fuse_joypad_b = "Space" fuse_joypad_down = "a" fuse_joypad_l = "<none>" fuse_joypad_l2 = "<none>" fuse_joypad_l3 = "<none>" fuse_joypad_left = "o" fuse_joypad_r = "<none>" fuse_joypad_r2 = "<none>" fuse_joypad_r3 = "<none>" fuse_joypad_right = "p" fuse_joypad_start = "Space" fuse_joypad_up = "q" fuse_joypad_x = "<none>" fuse_joypad_y = "<none>" fuse_key_hold_time = "500" fuse_key_ovrlay_transp = "enabled" fuse_load_sound = "enabled" fuse_machine = "Spectrum 128K" fuse_speaker_type = "tv speaker"

      Hopefully it helps.
