      @MortalWombat - The cores that compile in a "reasonable" time frame (under 2 hours) are mame2000, mame2003, mame2003-plus, mame2010 and FBNeo. mame2003 (plus changes ported over), mame2003-plus and FBNeo seem to be under rolling development. I watch those cores as new games and fixes are being added all the time.

      @cookingissues the keyboard IS a retropad, but that's not your problem.

      as i said, i think your problem is that you deleted all the retroarch.cfgs. you can probably restore them by reinstalling retroarch and mame2003 and then running emulationstation's input configuration again.

      @edmaul69 said in lrmame2003 where is input config file, cant find messed up menu button:

      @jjona5 im sorry wrong one. It is in your roms folder. I stole this from @mediamogul

      If you haven't already, try removing:

      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003/cfg/default.cfg

      Or if you're using the 'arcade' folder:

      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/mame2003/cfg/default.cfg

      this is correct :) btw this is in the docs here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#mame-menu

      This got me going thanks! oddly enough after this the ps3 controller just worked also.

      @morpie said in RPI 4.2 Mame 2003 SF2 button mapping changed?:

      I never changed my config and haven't gone into ES to confirm if there is a difference but when I use FBA my buttons are A-OK in Gunsmoke. Lr-Mame, no... Weird.

      Also curious... when others are inputting buttons... do you follow the GitHub diagrams or the labels on your controller? That may flip things if you aren't careful. But you'd notice in other emulators. 360 pad has the buttons labeled so that A and B and X and Y are swapped... I see lots of people mentioning buttons. If I press my A button when it asks and B when it asks, I would have them reversed... Which made console games I am more familiar with just weird.

      it's tricky but they had to choose a standard, and the SNES pad was it. i think when you bind through emulationstation/retroarch it says 'B (bottom)', 'A (right)', etc, but even if you go by the positions, the layout might feel better but you'll still have situations where a game will tell you to press the 'A' button, and then you'll have to press your 'B' button, etc.

      so i just use a SNES-type pad :)

      @dankcushions, @toralux

      Since playlists are required to have working Netplay Rooms, I posted a work-around that would apply here as well. I've been using it for a few months now and it's worked very well.

      @toralux

      Why is not the core-directory of RetroArch (in the RetroPie 4.2 distribution) pre-configured to point to /opt/retropie/libretrocores where the core-files are actually installed (instead of /home/pi/.config/retroarch/cores which is empty).

      Pointing to /opt/retropie/libretrocores wouldn't really work either, as that directory just contains other directories that in-turn have the libretro cores. My work-around puts a symlink of the core you're launching in a temporary location and RetroArch is then pointed to that temporary location. This allows playlists to work, but still let's RetroPie handle RetroArch the way it was designed to.

      Terrible stuff. I actually have a copy of the shooting script that has the Wookie parts translated on the page. It doesn't improve things. Although 'The Star Wars Holiday Special' certainly holds the crown as the absolute worst, retro-gamers can seek out their own personal nightmare before Christmas with the ill-conceived 'Christmas in Pac-Land'. Theses shows are not without merit however. They're a great stand-in for ipecac if you can't make it out to your local pharmacy and you've run out of eggnog.

      Apart from the fact that they then appear in both menus (which is what you are aiming for anyway), it should be fine. Also, don't forget if the rom requires a parent or bios set (like the Neo Geo stuff), you will need to symlink these files too.

      What is important is the information you should include in your post (pi version, where you got Retropie from, what version, etc.).

      MAME is a complex subject. It is a project that has been in development for many years and the supported filesets are updated with each release. You cannot just take a MAME ROM and throw it at a random MAME emulator, it has to match the version of MAME that the emulator is based on. On Retropie there are a number of different MAME packages and each supports a different romset.

      If you want to play a specific game, you need to get the ROM in the right version for the emulator (a list of romset versions for each emulator are in the wiki).
