    @norbit2 said in Need Help with getting a B-Wings ROM to work in MAME4ALL:

    Does anyone have a link to a B-Wing ROM that would work for me?

    I think your issue is mame4all nor lr-mame2000 support B-Wings. You'll need to upgrade to lr-mame2003 for it to work.

    Figured out how to do it indirectly.

    In \retropie\configs\all\emulationstation\es_systems.cfg
    <system>
    <name>mame-mame4all</name>
    <fullname>Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator</fullname>
    <path>/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/roms</path>
    <extension>.zip .ZIP</extension>
    <command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 SYS mame-mame4all %ROM%</command>
    <platform>arcade</platform>
    <theme>mame-mame4all</theme>
    </system>

    In \retropie\configs\mame-mame4all\mame.cfg
    rompath=/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all
    samplepath=/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/samples

    Put all game zips in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/
    Duplicate empty zero byte zip file names under /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/roms to generate the menu in subdirs.

    This also fixes issue where sample.zips shows up in emulation station menu.

    After using ClrMamePro and updating my ROM set... and finding out that i didn't have to go through all of that....
    i already had the correct ROM set version. All i had to do was copy over dkong.zip and then ReStart EmulationStation.
    Donkey Kong showed up and played just fine after that. Thanks for all the Great Advice.!!!!!

    @starfry said in Can I limit the frame rate of MAME emulation?:

    here is a list of games that I've tried in MAME and found to play fast:

    dkong.zip galaga.zip mrdo.zip pacman.zip invaders.zip phoenix.zip scramble.zip

    we have a compatibility sheet which doesn't seem to detail any issues with these games: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SHspjyHavY9-PKbO2swDr52BS2Wl_mB_Vjx2Z1SXiD8/edit#gid=828747670

    my only guess is that you have a keyboard or some other device that is pressing F10, which apparently toggles the throttle: see readme at https://github.com/RetroPie/mame4all-pi

    @eskodisk Out of curiosity... I was looking through some of the Arcade1up forums. Apparently some of them use Mame2000 (as well as other Mame versions, RetroArch, and remnants of Retropie). Their are problems already identified that may be helpful. High-scores was one of them.

    The guy who is leading the 1UP hacking charge has a thread on Reddit, but he doesn't know anything about Retropie, RetroArch, or Libreto, and was asking for help... if anyone wants to help him. ; )

    @andrewlee32 Listen, MAME has made better men than you weep for their mothers! Your best bet for a good grounding is getting ROMs from the MAME 0.78 reference set, maybe you could google that... Put them in the Arcade folder and choose lr-mame2003 as the default. That is my VERY quick start guide to MAME.

    @weed_snorkeler said in Changing the menu key in mame4all:

    @riverstorm I don't have a desktop, I only have a laptop. I've been turning off my Pi and editing the config files from the sd card. I'm going to need to get a keyboard some time soon though, I need one.

    Ah, that makes sense! I was like this is a first. I do keep an extra keyboard and mouse handy and also the Logitech K400 Plus (wireless w/dongle) which I mainly use for the Pi as it's has an almost full size keyboard, glide/mouse pad off to the right (all-in-one) and the USB dongle is the micro type. It's well suited for doing tweaks in front of the TV. They always seem to be on sale every few months at half price for $20.

    Ok, I'll try it. I used mame4all because I heard it had the best performance. Thanks for the tip.

    We were having a discussion if mame4all is a valid emulator in this thread (the last 3 or 4 posts). I am a strong advocate for mame4all-pi for the reason you stated and few others. I think the feature and ROM differences are subjective to your needs and I'm not sure if anyone has done any type of actual benchmarking as to which runs games better/smoother framerates. I was a die-hard mame4all-pi user and only converted due to some feature enhancements. I do use lr-mame2003 as my default @dankcushions has made some nice tweaks to improving lr-mame2003 over time.

    Another thing I don't care for that wasn't listed in that thread is when you pause in lr-mame2003 the screen goes blank/black which seems simple enough but it's a bit annoying for some reason when you're used to mame4all-pi where the screen is "froze" on pause. It helps to see where you're at before un-pausing. It's easy enough to get around by disabling pause in lr-mame2003 and using Retroarch to pause but I had a dedicated P button on my box that no longer works but the joystick is fine.

    For me it's minor issues/polish but not enough to stop me from using lr-mame2003 and I do keep mame4all-pi ROM set handy if needed. I think mame4all-pi is so universally ported it will always have a place. I would try both if even for contrast. I have it on a iPad even and it runs well but there's not much to say for the controls on a touch screen. :)

    @uptime Hi,
    I have managed to resolve the issue.
    I used the Tab key inside the game and selected input settings.
    The fire / shoot button corresponds to button 1. Just hit enter on the keyboard after selecting P1 button 1 and hit x on the Shanwan PS3 generic.
    Thanks.

    @kraken0667 AH ok, I'm not sure. I don't use non-libretro emulators. Mame2000 should be listed as "installed" and that one shouldn't need any alteration.

    What is important is the information you should include in your post (pi version, where you got Retropie from, what version, etc.).

    MAME is a complex subject. It is a project that has been in development for many years and the supported filesets are updated with each release. You cannot just take a MAME ROM and throw it at a random MAME emulator, it has to match the version of MAME that the emulator is based on. On Retropie there are a number of different MAME packages and each supports a different romset.

    If you want to play a specific game, you need to get the ROM in the right version for the emulator (a list of romset versions for each emulator are in the wiki).

    @BuZz said in usb audio and mame4all incompatibility ?:

    @rig if you have a rpi3, you will find lr-mame2003 a better emulator.

    Yea, I have lr-mame2003 but I don't use it as much. when I first started using mame I played a few roms on both emulators and came to the conclusion that mame4all worked better. By "worked better" I mean that the sound was cleaner/clearer on a few games and the video resoulution looked sharper on a few games. However I have run into exceptions-- I use lr-mame-2003 for St Dragon because it sounds much better compared to mame4all; I also play x-men on lr-mame 2003 becsuse the sprite shadows look better.
    I didn't run a thorough test and I could be mistaken. Maybe I should give lr-mame2003 another go. What do you mean specifically by lr-mame2003 being a better emulator?
    I can say that I do prefer lr-mame4all over mame4all because of the retroarch support.

    p.s. I am using a rpi3

    @rbaker I already tried with F7 + any key or ShiftF7 + any key, doesn't work, the sav folder, of corse, is present.

    I start to think simply save state it is not supported by mame4all.

    Last thing, i have some problem to write correctly in English so I do what I can, sometimes it's not enough, anyway before post this discussion, I assure you, i have tried alone for one week to solve the problem, i have read here and in whole internet lot of msgs but 99% of info was about normal mame (not mame4all) and in normal mame (that i use in my real arcade cabinet) works perfectly and in effect the tab menu (contrary to mame4all) has the two line load state and save state present.
    At this point I ask the moderators to close this topic, 90% of topic is out of topic and doesn't help anyone sorry.

    I'm having a similar issue at the moment. I've been trying for some time to get Joust working (it's my all-time favorite video game on any platform!). I just recently figured out how to reset the game to get it to actually start up, but now I can only control it via the keyboard. My 8bitdo SNES30 controllers don't seem to register any button presses, but they work fine for all other MAME games. The behavior seems to be the same for lr-mame2003 and mame4all. Any ideas? I'm on the same hardware and software versions as the OP.

    The 106 roms in question don't work in AdvMame .94 either :-(

    Good idea about switching the wires on the trackball. I'll take a look and see if it's an easy fix - then it will be right for everything going forward. Thanks for the idea!
