@nyvram said in N64 question...something overwriting my changes to mupen64plus.cfg. What is it?:

/configs/n64/emulators.cfg included hard-coded resolutions (1920x1080) for widesceen monitors and this was what kept overwriting the [video-general] section in the mupen64plus.cfg file.

That's strange, there shouldn't be any hardcoded values there with a default RetroPie install - unless the user has manually modified the launch scripts. How did you install RetroPie ?

@mitu I sincerely apologize I assumed my message was clear. The buttons were mapped but they were mapped to the joystick and the D-pad, etc. However, I was able to figure it out this morning. I keep trying to change the controller config under Quick Menu and then Controls but it is actually under Settings and then Input. I sincerely apologize for the confusion. I really appreciate your time.

@krystalis I thought it might be more than just that diagram. I did have to do a minor edit to the config file for the controller, but I can't remember what it was. I hope you get it sorted.

try mupen64plus-gliden64. it should be the best performance and compatibility in general, but be warned that it's quite normal for n64 to exhibit poor performance on pi4, but several games can perform pretty well.

I tried uncommenting and changing the hdmi_group and hdmi_mode options in the config.txt, but no audio improvement.....just poor video!

from what to what? i suggest a 1080p60 mode in your config.txt (please provide copies of all configs you edit.). any further lowering of resolution you need to do can be done via the runcommand, although personally i leave everything at 1080p.

      please also provide /opt/retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg

@mitu Thanks. I found out that I can record N64 using the retroarch menu and setting Use GPU Recording to on (although it is extremely choppy and unplayable). Does someone know what is the ffmpeg option equivalent to the retroarch Use GPU Recording to put in the custom recordconfig file? I tried hwaccel = auto but it does not seem to work.

@zodiark12 that's right. the retroarch menu could definitely be more intuitive in this regard but yes there's unobvious demarcation between options for the emulator core itself, and those of wider retroarch.

@tuomaspap Sorry for the delay, I never expected a reply. I was able to get it through the wayback machine. I've gone ahead and found a link on github for the pi4, hope it works!

@dankcushions Thank you for your explanation! I disabled overclocking and now my Pi is stable as before. I'll try with milder overclocking next time.

@yyx2 said in N64, NES and more not showing:

okey, let's see. what is meaning with image?

How exactly did you install RetroPie ? Did you use the file provided at retropie.org.uk/download (.img.gz) or other methods/files ?

The usb part i've configure to read roms trough the usb. I followed the steps where i first add some roms to the sd card, then transfered them to the usb. i don't know if you understand what i mean, but i hope you do.

Use the Finder to transfer your files, over the network, and leave the USB alone for now - see the file transfer method using file shares.

After doing a bunch of random stuff I give up. I'm 99% sure at this point you can't assign individual roms different values from mupen64plus.cfg [Video - Rice]

@gmesmer Sorry, totally forgot about this. I'm away from my Pi tonight but I'll do that tomorrow.

Edit: I've done that now, doesn't even load up. Just black screen then back to Emulation Station.
