Tinker Board doesn't have as much support as the Raspberry Pi does. But, it's GPU is much faster, at 600 MHz, versus the Pi's 250. GPU performance is the biggest hindrance in N64 emulation. Main reason why N64 sucks on the Pi.

@teve Some additions to @Lurker 's comprehensive post:

This video explains the majority of arcade joysticks on the market.

A extremely detailed website about joysticks and button layouts is slagcoin.com. Its creator approaches the topic with almost scientific commitment.

Another thing about the buttons you're considering: They have microswitches that make rather noisy clicks every time they're pressed and released. If you don't like that (I don't), you should look for leaf switches which are somewhat less durable but nearly inaudible. Alternatively, there are "silent" microswitches that are promoted as (nearly) noiseless, but they are more expensive and I don't have any experience with them.

The choice of speakers depends on your quality standards. I didn't like the sound of cheap speakers. Now I'm happy with wideband speakers for 30€ each. See my Asteroids-themed cabinet for a picture of them where you can see their brand and model.

@allenpie Install the Joystick Selection tool from the link provided and you'll have an extra menu entry in the RetroPie menu for you to configure the controller/player mapping.

@cyclair I have never created a theme, but it seems to me that this page describes how to setup sections for metadata. Have you tried removing the sections for both the labels and the data (ie: md_lbl_rating, md_rating sections)? I think you have to make backups and try this. It will be trial and error, especially to get your positions correct since you also said you wanted to raise the text. There are no simple answers here. You will need to get in there and make adjustments.

Also, I tried clicking your pastebin link and it looks like the XML is in a different language than your long post. Did you know you can go back and EDIT your long post? Folks might be more inclined to respond if you clean up that first post a bit.

@revtommy Dump question? Is the write protection switch disabled? It is not uncommon that if you insert the SD card the write protection switch can be enabeld by accident.

Anyway: you can run sudo raspi-config and it should work to expand file system ;)

Well...i thought i updated my laptop, but as it turns out as im on it now i did not and its on RetroArch 1.71. Ill do an update and see what happens...My pi 3b+ works even with my current overclocking tests so if things go south...

I did reinstall retropie on all 3 machines. My method of testing involved stripping the drive of its partition table, install my OS of choice (deb based of course), and then i installed retropie. Nothing else in between.

      Edit: More info

I was wrong on that. Its RetroArch 1.7.1 on the desktop machine, but i was able to unfortunatly recreate this on the pi by doing an apt update, apt upgrade.
It upgraded a few things such as the bootloader and the kernel, but as im watching it it seemed to have partially removed xpad - i say partially because it stated removing xpad and blah blah, but then in the retropie setup script it showed it as installed. Im not sure which action if not both caused the issue, but reinstalling xpad after a reboot did not resolve it.

So my Pi no longer works in Retroarch for player one. Does anyone know of any fixes for this, incompatabilities, bugs within the newest kernel or anything of the sort?
It is entirely possible that i did the same on the desktop before doing that second reboot so im kinda leaning toward it being kernel issue since xpad was NOT installed.

@mediamogul Thanks, this was helpful in getting advmame cheats working for me but I'm noticing that every time I close and re-open a game I have to go back in and turn the cheat back on. Is there a way to make it permanent?

Is there maybe a setting in the retroarch.cfg that needs added or turned off?

@doubleeuroz It's been a while since I installed this way but I'm almost sure that synaptic is included when you install the LXDE/PIXEL Desktop on top of Raspbian Lite.
