I did everything via ssh, then when I was able to get to the machine and turn on the display, it was working and I had access to 4,705 arcade games! True, hundreds of those were just Mahjong or different versions, but all the stuff I had fun playing in arcades is all there.

@rejesterd I followed the steps you put for the reicast install and it's all worked. I see what you mean about the BIOS moving into their own folder too, I checked that out once it had installed. Thanks for your help, much appreciated 👍

I cant help directly, but I have a similar issue. My LCD monitor is in 'normal' orientation however, with the mayflash wii bar mounted horizontally at the top. My crosshairs are constrained to the bottom left quandrant in mame-2003-plus at least. (pi 3B+, latest official retropie build).

You can chose a RetroArch based emulator for that specific rom (Afterburner 2) and you can also create a per-game config - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#hardcoded-configurations.

I was having a NIGHTMARE sorting this key out - i had read on MANY threads and forums about the Start+Select combo. But you are the first to say EXPLICITLY that the hotkey MUST be pressed with something to exit.

@mitu I'm overclocking to increase dreamcast and N64 performances. I noticed that with that OC values my pi stays under 70 Celsius degrees and dreamcast games run very well. I hope to gain some frame overclocking GPU as well but from what I understood it's not so affecting.

In the input setting of the retropie, say you found the GPIO controller and enter the keystroke (if you press Y, GPIO).They say they found the controller and enter the keystrokes. The only applicable advice in the above topic is

uninstall es dev, reinstall regular binary

Try re-installing your EmulationStation package, either from binary or from source.

So,, I tried the advice here from both Binary and source. I even removed all exp packages just to ensure it wasn't anything in there. The error still appears and now i've decided to attempt a complete rebuild from Raspbian up. I am also increasing SD capacity from 16gb to 32 GB to ensure space isn't an issue.
So, I did a basic install and then removed all main packages then proceeded to reinstall the main packages from source. See what happens there

Oh, yeah, forgot it's using $md_inst for user data.

That's a fortunate coincidence :).
