@dsquared .cdi "should" generally work but also cause more issues than they are worth.

For completeness, I've done some more work...
I checked fuse.rmp, it did not have the "-1" settings applied to anything.
Each game remap would have been created from the fuse.rmp (using the retroarch menus.)

I then checked all my game remap files. 13 of 28 files had this problem.

Next I tried to recreate using the retroarch controls menu.
Cycling right through the available options that can be mapped to the port 1 controls I have:

    "---"
    Up (1)
    Fire (1)
    Keyboard Overlay
    Up (2)
    Down
    Left
    Right
    Fire (2)
    Fire (3)
    Enter
    Space
    Then back to "---"

The (1) etc are my addition, "Fire" appears 3 times, "up" twice.
I set some buttons to each of these values, wrote a game remap file and checked for "-1". None of these options generated the "-1".

Next I cleared the options on buttons A, L, L2, R, R2 & X (all originally set to differently) and bingo, I recreated the problem :

    input_libretro_device_p1 = "257" input_libretro_device_p2 = "0" input_libretro_device_p3 = "259" input_libretro_device_p4 = "0" input_libretro_device_p5 = "0" input_player1_analog_dpad_mode = "1" input_player1_btn_a = "-1" input_player1_btn_l = "-1" input_player1_btn_l2 = "-1" input_player1_btn_r = "-1" input_player1_btn_r2 = "-1" input_player1_btn_x = "-1" input_player2_analog_dpad_mode = "0" input_player3_analog_dpad_mode = "0" input_player4_analog_dpad_mode = "0" input_player5_analog_dpad_mode = "0"

There appears to be a bug. When clearing a mapping using the retroarch "Controls/ port X Controls" menu from any value to "---" the resulting remap file contains "-1" for that key and this stops you mapping the button using the Retroarch "Options" menu.

I hope this helps repay the debt a little!

Quick update. For unrelated reasons I had to rebuild by system. I tried this again, renaming files and M3U entries .CD1-2 etc. Everything now works as expected.

I was totally convinced this was user error on my part. Apparently not. Queries resolved. Thanks all.

@retrus You may use rpi-clone to clone your card to another, smaller one, and then run the backup on Windows.

Thanks for advice. I bought 2TB ssd :)

@iron-magus said in Running skyscraper from command line and need help[:

(Also, you MIGHT not need the trailing “nes” in the gamelist and media folders, I think it’s implied. At least it is when setting them via config.ini in the main section, but not in a platform section. If your xml shows up in “gamelists/nes/nes” go ahead and just point them at “gamelists”/“downloaded_media”; it should automatically use a “<platform>” subfolder for each different one.)

When setting them on command-line the nes part is required. :) It is similar to setting it in a [nes] section in /home/USER/.skyscraper/config.ini.

@Gorf The credentials in /home/USER/.skyscraper/config.ini will be used if they are added using this exact formar:

    [screenscraper] userCreds="USER:PASSWORD"

I would also set the following which allows you to leave out the -g and -o part of your command:

    [main] gameListFolder="/home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists" mediaFolder="/home/pi/.emulationstation/downloaded_media"

Setting those in [main] will automatically add the /nes part to the end of them as @iron-magus explained.

Lastly, you don't need the -t 2 option when using ScreenScraper. It will overwrite it anyway. It is usable with other sources though.

@dankcushions I wanted to also ask you what type of controller you use with your pi when you play MAME (and FBA & CPS games). Is it wired or wireless? What specific controller works best with arcade games?

The reason I ask is the way they designed the pi is awkward with the ports not giving us a traditional front or back so I don’t wanna fool with wires bending over the console.

@agrajag Good times. I use my keyboard as my primary controller for my Daphne roms. Intellivision, because of its unique rotating dist controller, strikes me as a pain to use with a fight stick. I have used an 8BitDo SNES style gamepad to play Intellivision games, but it is not ideal.

    David,

Dumb question: How do you go about changing controllers? That part of Retropie is a mystery to me at this point. Everything I have running is setup to run on the Mayflash and since it's seen as a generic Xbox controller (and my other controllers are almost all Xbox wired and wireless actual controllers) I'm really concerned about being able to easily switch back and forth.

For example, I want to play the game Dungeon Explorers on SegaCD or TurboGrafx with four of us, but I have NO idea how to essentially remove the Mayflash, plug in four game controllers and have it all just work without screwing up all the work I did to get the Mayflash to work.

@dankcushions what is the best way to do the intial config? Set it up for LR-MUPEN, then customize the mupen64plus config file?

@mitu Rebooted and it now \\retropie doesn't work again. Going direct to the IP does.

I suspect I could add an entry to HOSTS that MAY work, but I'd hate doing something like that as then I'll forget it's there and later may want to move the IP and won't know why that's not working.

@alphabetapie most of the dat files for the supported MAME emulators in retropie are available in the docs: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/MAME/

so from there you can see how many versions of a given game there are. on latest mame i can see 2 versions of vcop and vcopa (revision A). these don't seem to be language designations.

    doing some research: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=vcop

0.155: Changed 'Virtua Cop (Revision A)' from a parent set to clone.

so it might be that rev a was the japanese version and from 0.155 the parent is USA language, or it could be a system menu thing. but without logs or any kind of diagnostic info we're just guessing.

Please add more info about your setup, as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
