thank you. I did not change any video modes via run command. Not even sure how to do this? I know during emulation you can make changes but I can't see the options because the screen is so zoomed in I can only see the first few options. Same for changing emulators but I may be wrong with that as well.

I may need to switch emulators but I'm not 100% how to do this through the CLI / config menu's ATM. I'm going to take a stab at that too. Update: I was already using lr-fbalpha (NEOGEO), and tried switching to pifba but got a black screen no sound no nothing (so worse). Thinking I can update the emulator software and have better results? worth a try.

OK I tried editing the config.txt and it didn't make a difference in the menu or the emulation.

It's been a while when configuring it, I had just copied the entire file and made it act like an independent emulator. I actually don't know if RetroPie or fbneo will look for in "/opt/retropie/configs/fba/" first, if you load up a game from Neo Geo systems folder. If that is the case, then you can only include the differences you want to have in "/opt/retropie/configs/neogeo/neogeo-core-options.cfg" . If RetroPie requires you to have two different files, then you are probably out of luck.
Or you can try to use the "include" statement on top of the neogeo-core-options.cfg to point to the file from fba. But I don't know if this works.

As a sidenote, when looking through my old Raspberry Pi 3 installation backups, I don't see any neogeo-core-options.cfg files anymore, but retroarch-core-options.cfg. Not sure if the tutorial is outdated. Sorry for the late reply and I hope you get it working.

Also, would it be problematic using a rom not ending with h in AES neogeo mode?

Not at all. This was just my personal decision to use these specific versions of the ROMs. Although I couldn't spot any differences tbh

With your help, I finally tested this (so far with one game each system, but there should be no reason why the other games don't work as intended now) successfully. But there is a mistake in your posting.

The emulator does not seem to read from this setting, but there is already an existing setting for this file. Instead of core_options_file look for core_options_path. This worked for me. @m2306 You bought that controlblock so I'm not sure how you can overclock properly. Should've bought a zero delay usb encoder, connect your joystick to that so then you can buy a flirc case or a heatsink+fan combo.

Do you need to overclock? No. Should you, if you had the ability to? Oh YES. Snes requires all the power it can get. The latest snes emulator, lr-snes9x, requires even more. If you want bleeding edge snes emulation the pi can handle, then you have to use that one. It's actively supported so any bugs will get worked on faster than the rest. MSU-1 support as well. As an example: I still get slowdowns on kirby3 at 1.5ghz. There's also a setting to speed things up to fix the original emulation slowdowns. So games like super r-type don't get slowdowns anymore.

Arcade games need it too. It's such a hassle testing each game to see which one runs the fastest and with proper emulation. In a perfect world, if the pi could run the latest mame, then one arcade emulator would be so awesome. As it is now, I have to juggle between four arcade emulators, other people even more. A faster speed would help the situation a bit. I'm still slowly moving games from mame2003 to fba and I need to re-test the 4player konami games again to see if I still get slowdowns, so I can eliminate using fba2012.

I forgot about lower end emulators like nes and genesis. They can also benefit by having the ability to enable the run-ahead setting to shave off a few frames of input lag. That feature requires tons of power too.

I would've gone with something more powerful like an odroid xu4, but the level of support will always make me stick with pi's....that and I have no idea if my original snes pad driver will work on the odroid. I would want a silent cooling solution and I heard the giant heatsink version doesn't cool properly.

I know what happened now. Considering I just moved back. I had it originally hooked up to a PC LCD monitor, that's must of triggered incorrect video input. I removed current state video settings and chose default retropie settings. I'm HAPPY Now, thank you. Currently using an HDTV. I want to update to Stretch, but going to wait a few more months. I already heard about people trying update to Stretch and causing a bit of mess.

I will talk about the neogeo video issue soon when I get better. Overall neogeo works, but very picky what's going on, it just scrolls awkward, just imagine a tray of domino square pieces moving from left to right.

I did choose to enable "Verbose logging" like you said and nothing really happened no video signal message that tv usually says.

I'm pretty positive that the romsets are correct with the emu version.
I've ordered a 3B+, should come in the mail tomorrow,was hoping to be able to find a use on the old rpi but i guess it's gonna be something else.

No, this is present in original hardware. I know there is a trick to hide it, perhaps i'll look into it the day there won't be things more important to do in the emulator, which means probably never. I don't mind if someone try to add a core option for this and make a PR though.

Looks like the locations where the Selph scraper gets data is incompatible with Emulation Station. In particular progettoemma has video snaps recorded with a codec that almost no device supports. They won't display video in OMX or a PC running windows 10 unless you search around and add a codec pack that happens to have predictive 4:4:4 (I used the free K-Lite 1400 Full). And the text descriptions input in to the gameslist.xml file has tab characters or something embedded in then. I used Notepad++ and made all special characters visible and didn't see anything other than the offending lines indented and showed tab lines. I had to delete them all. Also, the descriptions are rife with escape codes for carriage returns and line feeds ( &#xA) . I just got rid of all special characters and other than the ones for quotes or apostrophes and then manually adjusted each paragraph by hitting enter twice to add my own line feeds where I wanted a new paragraph and cleaned it all up. I then used Handbrake to batch re-encode all of the scraped snaps to the "normal" or "High Profile" preset and turning down quality to 25 to make the files a little smaller (on par with the original sizes).

Ok the correct way is:

Turn on setting mode
Do a reset
Go to Setting up the soft dip > Slot 1 Metal Slug> Turn on blood
Navigate back and select exit
It should display DIP SW 1 OFF!!! or so
Then turn off setting mode in rgui

Edit: It should create a .fs file in the romdir.

I don't really understand the aversion to this. The settings are thoughtfully put in place to allow the type of functionality you're looking for. Having two files seems like a small price to pay, but that's just me.
