    @SpudsMcToole

If you are not satisfied with the performance, try to switch the 'Synchronisation method' to 'Flexible'. With the 'Exact' method I got only 90% and choppy sound...
Under the 'Video settings' / ' Size settings' disable 'Double size/Double scan/Full screen options' and set the 'Custom resolution' to 384x272, SDL2 will do its job.

Sorry for my poor english. ;)

Turns out the only gamelist that was created was in ~/RetroPie/roms/retropie/gamelist.xml , (there was only this single one on my whole disk, and I did search for hidden files, too).
But in the retropie_setup.sh -> tools -> scraper options, I had disabled (or forgotten to enable) that the .xmls be put in their respective rom directories.
So I deleted the single gamelist and image folder (that contained metadata for >10 systems), scraped again, since I really couldn't be bothered with manually sorting metadata for >4k Roms into different folders, and this time everything was saved to the right locations!
Thank you very much for providing me with the correct locations, the problem is solved now and the thread can be closed.

@zmb187 Please add more information about your system as asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

What controller types ? Are you supplying enough power to the PI with a proper power source ?

@dml1783 Please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first to your topic.
What is the source of the video snaps ? Did you use a scraper to download them or added them yourself ?
    Run from a command line

    ffmpeg -i <path_to_video_file_with_errors>

and paste here the output to see what codec/video format is the video file.

    Ok thank you for that.
I just wasn't sure if the same bug was in stretch and that the documentation had not been updated, as the documentation also stated that bug before retropie moved to stretch in april.
    Thanks

@mitu thank you so much for sending that over. I took a look at that at the time but ran into a couple of issues that would benefit from others' inputs as the changes to make it work don't seem to be trivial and will likely imply some changes in other areas of the code, so I'd rather not do that without others' perspective.

@jdrassa this is the issue that prompted our chat a while back, for context. I may take this on later or at least add comments to the issue that was just created so that we can discuss things there.

    Thanks all.

I tried doing the JSTEST, it detected it alright. But it still does not detect the buttons. It says 13 buttons detected but has four nulls in the end if the list which i think represent the nonfunctional buttons. The driver version is 2.1.0, is there a new one and how do i install it?0_1542835782198_48724714-04F0-45ED-9B52-1B74B2C05B8A.jpeg

Hi all! I just wanted to say that I got an answer to my issue! My particular problem was due to my using a VGA to HDMI converter to use with my old VGA monitor. What fixed my problem was to edit the config.txt file and uncomment the line "hdmi_force_unplug=1". Works perfectly now. Again, thank you all for your time.

A link to the linux sh files I've created based on MAME 0.189 listing
ssh into your pi or on the pi.
    CD to rom folder
    mkdir parents
    mkdir clones
    mkdir not-working
    Then:
Bash <filename> for each of these sh files

@mitu said in Noob questions about multiple controllers and USB boards:

It's in the get started section - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Controller-Configuration/. ES tries to cover for all possible buttons and joysticks present on a PS or Xbox controller. There's also a video linked which shows this process.

I've seen that, and I guess I'm not fully grasping how it's going to behave because that only shows "one controller detected". I assume that "one detected" is because one USB is device is plugged in in that example, and it's offering the options which go with that controller (SNES, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.) being plugged in. It doesn't explain how the menu will look when I have two separate USB boards and possibly a third (i-pac2 with ball and spinner), and what will be presented as options for each. I assume with my custom-built cabinet, I will get some sort of "generic controller" detected, so I am wondering what options it will give me. It also isn't clear where/when/if the hotkey action options appear - it lists the defaults at the bottom but not in the format of the stuff above. Are the hotkey action items listed in order to be assigned, or do they default as indicated and you can only change them by going into the config menu?

Also, one post I saw seemed to indicate that if you reassign a hotkey action to a single button on your cabinet (rather than leaving it as "hotkey + (button or joystick direction)", then all the other hotkey actions must be assigned a single button and can't remain as a two-press action. Is that correct?

Each console has its own gamepad - see this page for a detailed overview. The main variation is within the Arcade games, where it really depends on the game - but that's not really my area of expertise. You can look up various builds posted on the forum for real cabinets and their setup and others might chime in and give you advice.

Yeah, I've read various threads opining on button arrangement, but my question is really a derivative of the above questions; I'm less worried about arranging the buttons for my gameplay and more concerned about what other buttons I should have on my cabinet in order to make it easy for my little kids and for visitors to play.

    Thanks for you answer!

I didn't know about the different emulators but I was using Mupen64plus which has his own config...
I tried lr-mupen64plus but the cinematics appears black sometimes and the game crashed a few times...

    So a (re)switch on Mupen64plus.

Just in case someone has the same issue I drop here the configuration issue I had:
In the config file (/opt/retropie/configs/from_retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg) I had this line:

    # Joystick event string for stopping the emulator Joy Mapping Stop = "J1B10/B9"

The combination B10 (hotkeys) and B9 (start) seems to be ok for me BUT my controller was J0 not J1. It fix the "stop emulator" command. Now I have to check for the load/save state commands.

Thanks again for you answer. It really helped me :-)
