@natesroom sudo rm /home/pi/.kodi/userdata/guisettings.xml will remove the settings file and will create a default when you start kodi again.
OR navigate to that file open it and change the skin (around line 139) setting to one you have installed. ie

<skin>skin.estuary</skin>

@che_don_john Ahh..gotcha..I was just curious. I see alot of people transferring via usb and have problems. So much easier using ssh. I was one of them when I first got my pi as I watched a youtube vid with no knowledge of ssh, and I found it took forever to transfer games via usb..lol . Glad you got it sorted !

Although it has only the game.controller.snes profile defined. This profiles are mainly for the RetroPlayer engine/emulators, to play games inside Kodi, which will only be officially available in Kodi 18. So try what TheDataCereal said, which is basically manual mapping one of this profiles in the Kodi interface, I also recommend using the default one.

PS1: The gamepad configuration examples on RetroPie wiki are outdated, they are for Kodi < 17. The new ones have the format like the one posted above. In your case you should be able to do everything in the Kodi user interface, no need to create/edit the xml file.
PS2: Yes, it can have spaces after the name.

I had a problem with 4.3 - every time I played something from Kodi, the screen would go black after playback. I would have to reboot to restore the GUI. I couldn’t find a resolution so the only way to solve it was to roll back to 4.2 where I have no problems with the screen going black after playback. Unfortunately I have this other issue that I’ve not encountered before. Worth noting that I ran Kodi 17.3 before and had the option to reboot/shut down.

@addison milkdrop is not supported on the Pi. Shadertoy is really the best you can get atm. This needs to be installed via the command line. See 6.1 http://kodi.wiki/view/Ubuntu_binary_add-ons.
So run sudo apt-get install kodi-visualization-shadertoy Waveform and Spectrum also run on the Pi

Followed this fella on you tube who tells you how to boot from the sd card without a boot program, just rewriting a file, and the image is now working, now i'am enabling the unallocated space that's left in the drive to add more roms and media.

I see I still have the file /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg totally empty, do you think it can be an issue if I reboot?

Problem solved, I did
sudo nano /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg to get to the file you write the system code and I just deleted what I wrote concerning Kodi as a standalone system. Then I saved it and opened Emulation Station and it was fine. I think what happened is since I couldn't do ~/RetroPie/roms/kodi I just copied what the other ones had there instead.

@pixelateddad Check if Kodi appears as installed in the RetroPie setup script, then uninstall it and try updating again to see if it appears.

Yes it is still available, just update Kodi first in RetroPie-Setup before downgrading.

@rascas People with Bluetooth controllers are reporting this issue. If USB controllers and Bluetooth controllers are affected, there's something wrong with the underlying OS or its drivers.

@herb_fargus Yes it should be, I indeed spoke about Pixel because it is easier to setup.
About the addon, I never took a look at its code but I am almost sure that in either case it wont work. For example in the raspberry pi, kodi must be closed to use any other graphical application, it won't be easy to change the addon.

@mrkane If you don't follow the forum's rules, then - yes - this will result in a ban. It's not that difficult to understand.

As far as your problem - your system doesn't seem to be connected to the internet. How did you configure your RPI for network access ? Assuming you're talking about WiFI, then read https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Wifi/ and perform the steps listed there to get your PI connected to the internet.
