The .mcr file should work. PBP is the format for the image of the PS1 game, not the save game. After launching the emulator you will have pull up the retroarch menu to point the memory card location to wherever your .mcr or .gme files are and it should work. I think it also helps if you are using a BIOS file for the PS1. I know it works but it's not the easiest thing to do.

You should try with SCPH101.BIN bios instead. It's the one from PSOne, so it's more modern and updated and generally should work better (at least that's the case with my games I've tested). Also, try disabling some features like Interlacing and Dithering.

@edmaul69 I had it in there initially but I took it out, it's Resident Evil 2, so the actual structure looks like:

      • Resident Evil 2 (Leon Disk 1).bin
      • Resident Evil 2 (Leon Disk 1)(Track 2 audio).bin
      • Resident Evil 2 (Claire Disk 2).bin
      • Resident Evil 2 (Claire Disk 2)(Track 2 audio).bin

Bump, adding /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file to the first post ... I don't see anything wrong with it. Yet neither controller or keyboard work with lr-cores.
EDIT : managed to get back controls on lr-cores by deleting /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads , disabling , enabling xboxdrv, remapping the controllers and lots of reboot

On another note, no progress on getting enhanced resolution and analog support with pcsx-rearmed :/

Open LUKS Encrypted "PSX" Folder On USB3 1TB HDD?

Also if all your PSX games are in this "PSX" folder on your external HDD, you can make a custom es_systems.cfg file that will tell EmulationStation to look at the external HDD for the PSX games.

(If you haven't already done this) you can copy es_systems.cfg to your local directory.

      cp /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg ~/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg

Then edit ~/.emulationstation/es_systems.cfg and change "<path>/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/psx</path>" to

      <path>/media/usb0/PSX</path>

(or where ever you have your external HDD mounted and the correct "PSX" folder)

Note: you want to do the local/custom version because when you update RetroPie, it will reset/override your /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg. More information about that here:
      https://retropie.org.uk/docs/EmulationStation/#editing-es-configs

@lostless said in Where is the virtual PSX memory card located?:

The srms are the memory cards. Pcsx makes a new memory card for each game.

Thank you for clearing that up!

      @Lovelyboi said in PS1 - PSX:

@Darksavior So, do you need a rom and .bin file for every game? What about the BIOS. Is that just one file for all games? Thanks for the help. I'm waaay new to all of this.

You can read the link I posted for the supported file formats. I prefer to just download converted .pbp's due to being smaller in size and are only one file, which makes for a neater library.

As for the bios, yes, one file. There's different version numbers of the bios that exist. Just choose one.

@dankcushions Hey, thanks. That worked perfectly, thank you!

Just in case anyone comes across this later this is what I did:

the "Load content specific core" option is enabled by default. Start your game, open the retroarch menu, then select Quick Menu > Options > Create Game options file. Exit the game. Once you do this a file should be generated in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/config/PCSX-ReARMed, or \retropie\configs\all\retroarch\config\PCSX-ReARMed on the network, called something.opt. Open this and set the plugin to disabled.

So, after some testing and reading, I guess the problem is the SD card speed. Although mine is a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB Class 10 I had to overclock the card reader. This thread helped me. Anyways, I might also try loading through a external drive.

@AlexMurphy Yes they did. I didn't convert them and it's not a file ownership issue.
It was the bios the old bios I was using SCPH1001.BIN. And downloaded the same one from a trusty website and voilá problem solved.
Thanks for the brainstorming @AlexMurphy. it really helped.
