If you are looking for both capacity and performance, I highly recommend the Sandisk Extreme series cards (not Ultra). I went through a great deal of frustration a while back with seemingly random pauses on ISO based games due to either transfer rate limitations or more likely interruptions to the data stream from the ISO image while playing a disk image based game. I finally found what I consider to be the best solution for both speed and capacity in the Sandisk Extreme 128GB SD card. Once I found this card, the issues I was having all but vanished and I've never needed to test another card. The only downside is it is pricey, so you might want a smaller card if you don't need the capacity. I should mention I have not tested smaller cards in the Extreme series though. @raider2747 That's why the .cue file is needed - its contents describe how the game data/music is distributed in the .bin files. If you open a .cue file (which is nothing but a text file) you'll see that.

A Pi3 with lr-fba does not need overclocking. The slowdowns you see are either:

something that also happens on real hardware when there's too much action going on - part of the charm!

CPU throttling (check the temperature) or undervoltage

some games are programmed to look like they're slowing down (drama effect), it's something bizarrely intentional

@edmaul69 Hello! Well I've got Boulderdash running with vice (not lr). But Im going to re-install Lr-vice again. But heres what works for me. in case anyone has the same difficulty.

[All from the ViceMenu GUI]

1- Restore defaults from 'settings management' (this is a different pref set than the package, you can tell as it changes the display filter to emu crt display)
2 - Set Machine settings / Joystick settings / Joystick device 1 -> Joystick
3 - Set Machine settings / Joystick settings / Joystick 1 mapping -> !Go set this!
4 - Save your settings in 'settings managment'

I think my naviety was !assuming! that because I've configured controllers for retropie that the mapping would naturally carry over to the emulator. Not for vice it seems. Lesson learned.

On the keyboard front, I loaded up the mac version of Vice, found the symbolic and positional keyboards for mac. I then loaded those into the C64 rom section. Then loaded those keyboard layouts in vice. However this made no difference. Unless you have to save the keyboards .kvm's in a specific location I think keyboard mapping is broken in vice

@lucienstorm Use the Runcommand onstart script (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Runcommand/#runcommand-onstart-and-runcommand-onend-scripts) and log the start of the game to a text file. Put in the onstart script something like

echo "Started $3 at `date`, for system $1" >> $HOME/playcount.txt

and then inspect the playcount.txt file periodically.

@dv8mad You need to enable SSH first before using WinSCP - see the docs https://retropie.org.uk/docs/SSH/. After you enable it, then you can use WinSCP and transfer the CD images.
But you'll get the same result if you transfer the files over file shares, copying them via file shares in \\retropie\roms\segacd. Make sure that the files have the proper case, i.e. .cue vs .CUE, and the .cue file (which is a normal text file) also has inside the correct .bin filename. Remember that Linux has a case sesitive filesystem.
Once you have copied the files, restart Emulationstation and see if the system shows up with the games. If they don't, check the log in /home/pi/.emulationstation/es_log.txt via WinSCP and see if you get any errors there.

Default behaviour is to assign controller number in the order of connection.
You could use the @meleu 's joystick-selection script (available from experimental packages) to map your controllers by core (ie snes pad for snes games).

I've also noticed a problem with blending while I was helping to troubleshoot recent issues with missing textures, but I wasn't certain that the blending issue was an existing problem or something new, as I rarely test N64 emulation.

Legacy blending is disabled for certain games - including Zelda - here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/emulators/mupen64plus/mupen64plus.sh#L201

If you're familiar with editing files via SSH, you can edit /opt/retropie/emulators/mupen64plus/bin/mupen64plus.sh and try removing zelda from that blacklist to see if the problem is resolved. I'll take a look when I have some free time.

The option is in the Runcommand menu, but the screenshot/example of that menu is likely old and does not show that choice as an example. However, if you use Runcommand, L "Launch with verbose logging" is an option.
