Please let me know if this is enough information -- as mentioned, super new to this...

Pi Model: v 3
RetroPie Version Used: v4.1
Built From: downloaded file from retropie site and followed instructions to extract with 7-zip and used Win32DiskImager
USB Devices connected: tried once with just the USB SNES style controller RetroLink and once with both Controller and Keyboard (logitech k400)
Controller used: same as above
Error messages received: no error messages, it just loses controller mapping and essentially requires a reboot
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: many different online guides tried / youtube videos / this forum /
File:
Emulator: Tried with NES / SNES / Genesis
Attachment of config files: how do i copy these out of the device?

I was wondering the same but until I get the time to really fix this issue I do the following:

Create whatever file you need on your Pi in Windows (or any other OS) Copy the file(s) to your Pi in one of the shared folders in \Retropie SSH into the Pi Copy the files to the right location on the Pi

Not the most user friendly way, but this way I got my Pi to boot showing the PsOne boot sequence.

@ebtalk as found here, you can use gparted for this:

@matalog Alright, I think i can give it a go at the weekend.

You risk corrupting your SD card otherwise.

Also, is it necessary to have a usb keyboard?

It's not absolutely necessary, but I would highly recommend keeping one handy for maintenance.

The light gun games can be played through lr-nestopia with a mouse, air mouse and/or various PC arcade guns that act as mice. Unfortunately, while there is also support for emulating the Power Pad via gamepad buttons, I've never run across a NES to USB adapter that supported the actual Power Pad peripheral itself.

@ther3dhood Power supply inadequate? Plug USB hub into other usb port?, on a pi zero, one is power only so this is the order as you look at it...

HDMI MicroUSB MicroUSB(power only) - use the middle one. Cheap hubs don't work, search the threads on here for best options.

I was actually able to get this figured out by establishing an internet connection over USB to my mac. The trick was most things I was reading on how to do that was using pi@raspberry.local when I needed to use pi@retropie.local (it wouldn't use SSH over the ip address for whatever reason). I was then able to install gamecon as it could fetch the latest packages and install those. Hopefully this helps someone else with a similar situation.

Maybe try it with emulation station shut down by pressing f4. Emulation station may be rewriting the game list files when you restart it.

@lostless That was exactly it! I even remember reading about this very same thing in the RetroPie wiki but had completely forgotten about it. Pressing F4 to close down Emulation Station and then transferring the respective files/folders over works perfectly. Thank you!

I've never really looked into the PiZero past it's initial announcement. With it's extreme low cost, compatibility with Pi1 projects and it's small size, the benefits do actually seem to outweigh the negatives. However, I remember very well that I never could push the Pi1 as much as I would have liked and I can't imagine being satisfied running a RetroPie installation on it. All that said, it's hard to deny just how awesome the plug and play RetroPie SNES controller mods are.
